To always feel so tired

What have you done to turn this around? Both short and long term? I'm going to bed on time and getting 7/8 hours sleep. Currently taking a multivitamin. I would say I eat moderately well, plenty of water but not always the most nutritious foods.

What need to do something over the next couple of weeks to stop feeling so tired and run down. I get a cold almost every other week. What has helped you?

I was the same and my GP suggested I had my iron levels checked. I was anemic. I also noticed that I was very tired if I had diet soft drinks (I think the artificial sugars was affecting my iron levels) so have cut out everything that has saccharin. I also try to eat a lot of green vegetables esp. spinach.

Get some blood tests done eg iron levels and thyroid.

Sooverthemill · 06/02/2020 21:23

Pregnant! Anemic? Thyroid levels? 6 children under school age? Tons of reasons. If you think you are usually tired see your GP. It could be a symptom of an illness. It could be because you're a mum

Onthetrain75 · 06/02/2020 21:24

Rule out any health issues, make sure your diet is good. Are you a healthy weight? Do you get enough exercise?

Curiosity101 · 06/02/2020 21:31

7/8 hours sleep may not be enough for you - or the quality of the sleep might not be good enough. Is this a recent thing or long term? Can you pin point anything that has changed recently / over the time you've noticed this increased tiredness?

I hear ya, being a mum is hard work. Some time out for yourself, even if it’s 15 mins really helps. Blood test is a must, heavy periods can wipe you out. I really found anti inflammatory diet helped and cutting down alcohol down to a minimum. Getting outside for some fresh air as often as possible is good too. Hopefully that helps, still tired lots of days though Hmm

Stop drinking coffee and tea completely.

RainbowAura · 06/02/2020 21:49

Blood tests definitely. Multivitamin is good but also take a high strength Vitamin D supplement.
This was me 2 months ago. Feel completely different now.

7/8 hours would no way be enough for me! Id struggle to function on 7 hours.

I have M.E so am forever fatigued... however, for years before my diagnosis i needed a solid 9 hours. Prior to this i was tested for iron deficiency, thyroid ect... the simple fact was that i wasnt getting enough sleep.

Before going and getting prodded by the GP i would try a few early nights and see if that resolve things?

The quality of your sleep is important too -so no caffeine during the evening, no phones/ipads before bed. Try read a book.

Get a full blood check done. It turned out I have coeliac disease (an auto immune illness). I was getting so ill all the time. I'm still quite tired, but not ill as much nowadays. Ask the doctor to do a full check.
