Nut Allergy

Just after some opinions.
Looking to book a cottage for summer. Found one that is perfect in every way, except it has a tree in the back garden that produces nuts in the Autumn time. (note we're going in Summer and not autumn).

DC1 has a an allergy to that specific nut. It's not life-threatening (or at least it wasn't when we found out and we haven't tested it ourselves for obvious reasons), although we would have to treat with Piriton should the need arise.

He also has a general hayfever reaction and we think that's to tree-pollen but we treat that in the normal way with antihistamines and that would be unavoidable no matter where we went.

I've looked online and can't find anything about if you are allergic to nuts you're allergic to the tree, or the sap of the tree, that produces them. FWIW it's a fairly large garden and the tree is avoidable. DC1 is 7 (will be 8 when we go) and is very sensible when it comes to his allergy. However, there's the nagging doubt in the back of our mind.

My AIBU is am I being daft?

You're not being daft, you're being careful. It would only be a problem if the nut shell was broken, wouldn't it?

Yeah, that's for the nut. We're almost 100% sure there won't be any lying around. Even if they were the kids wouldn't eat them. I'm not sure how severe a reaction he would have if he touched the nut.We haven't tested that either.

It's more a reaction to the actual tree or the sap of the tree we can't get any information for.

Iirc it's the protein of the nut that is the allergen.

I have a tree nut allergy and a nut allergic child. He'll be fine, honestly. Especially if he's already going to be on a daily antihistamine, which would go a long way to mitigating any reaction in the highly unlikely event there was one.

Thanks guys. Just needed a bit of reassurance.
