AIBU to wait up for a cat?

Or rather, is my husband?

We got a new cat just over two weeks ago, kept him in for the whole time and let him out today. He’s been out and come back twice, and then went out about 4 hours ago and hasn’t come back in... I’m not overly concerned yet as growing up our cats often went off travelling for hours before the rolled on in... hubby however is totally panicked!

My only concern is he can’t get back in if we go to bed and it’s blooming cold outside!

How long would you wait up? Hubby had to go to Manchester overnight last night for work (5hrs each way) and really needs to get some rest before work tomorrow but he won’t go to bed if the cats not in...

Will the cat find somewhere warm? Do I stay up all night if necessary? Should I drug hubby just to make sure he gets some sleep?!

Putting a cat out every night even in winter is really cruel. I am surprised the cat has not found itself a new home. How would you like to be shut outside in the cold every night?

I got my two from rescue just before Christmas.
They go out out first thing in the morning and can get back via the cat flap into the kitchen during the day where there's a supply of biscuits and water.
They're usually inside waiting for tea when I get home or they arrive very quickly once they know I'm back. Cat flap is then locked and they stay in.
Glad your boy is home.

I am so glad hes home. We have 6 cats and although we have a cat flap I still like to know where they are before I goto bed so I shake a tin of dreamies and they appear within seconds 🤣 I wouldnt dream of locking them out all night unless I knew they had a warm shelter but even then they would sit under my window and meow 🤣 They are totally spoilt but we love them so much xxx

I trained mine to come in by whistling when he was going to get fed. It carries well at night when things are quiet.

No way would I let a new cat out after two weeks, I’d say a minimum of six. Yes, wait up for cat.... you can’t leave it out all night after letting it out after only 2 weeks.

Cat is back @19lottie82!

Think OPs husband is back today. And they all have come back one by one...
