AIBU to ask about itchy skin?

Apologies for asking for advice on here but I am going mad this evening. My skin is itching all over. Legs, back, chest, boobs, arms, hands and even right ear!! This has been going on for about 2 weeks now. Thought it was getting better but it’s really not. Have been woken in the night for the last 2 nights by it and just have to sit and scratch until it hurts, therefore feels less itchy and go back to sleep. Have been away from home for the last 3 days hence why I haven’t sort any medical advice yet but I think I’m going to have to? No rash or barely even a mark (well until I’ve finished tearing at my skin!). Anyone else ever had anything similar? Also haven’t changed any products. Thanks x

I've been having the same and just been diagnosed as perimenopausal. I'm 43 in a couple of weeks. Might be worth looking up the symptoms and seeing if you are getting any others and having a chat with your doc x

I was prescribed Aveeno for my skin and eventually discovered I was allergic to it! It made me worse 😫

Taddda · 04/02/2020 22:07

Sugar can cause it @Duvetdweller, think that's possibly more likely than just the alcohol- (I dont eat alot of sugar for that very reason, it sends my skin mad- had a 'lindt' binge out recently, Claritin for a week until it calmed....my fault for falling foul of the 'Easter bombardment' that started in January...!)

I have this- early 50’s and going through menopause. Starts as soon as I get into bed and stops me sleeping. Yup, even my ears itch.

TwoBlueFish · 04/02/2020 22:24

Mine definitely isn’t menopause related (started in my mid 30’s, had bloods done recently and I’m not peri menopausal).

Dylaninthemovies1 · 04/02/2020 22:27

Is your skin or eyes yellow at all? Is your pee and poo normal colours? I had jaundice a few years ago, and itching was a major side effect

TheFormidableMrsC · 04/02/2020 22:30

I would see your GP just to rule out any issues with your liver/kidneys, both of which can cause itching.

SerenDippitty · 04/02/2020 22:32

Laundry stuff, including eco and those for sensitive skin, is a big problem for me. Can’t use anything except Persil and can’t use fabric softener at all.

Raspberrytruffle · 04/02/2020 22:42

@Browntile I've been dealing with the same problem for the past 12 years! I've been back and forth to the doctors and all they have said is it must be an allergy! I havnt got a clue what causes it but even when I've not ate for days I'm still itching like a crotch infested with a million fleas! Sorry too much but I'm glowing red hot all over with itching literally every orafice from my eyes to my bum hole is itchy, nothing wases it unless I take prescribed antihistamines, dont judge folks I got away with the shop bought stuff for a few years but they stopped working so I have to get the prescription. I feel for you! No rashes either. Infact I wake up trying to scratch under my toe nails Blush

Duvetdweller · 04/02/2020 22:42

Interesting about sugar and also menopause.
I’m 43 and I do feel itchy a lot!! No other symptoms though! I’m wondering whether @Browntile is right and I should have a gin 😁

CornedBeef451 · 04/02/2020 22:49

I get hives at night and have done for the last year or so.

GP said it's urticaria but I've read it can be linked to perimenopause and changes to the skin. I take a prescription antihistamine and a cocktail of over the counter ones. Sort of helps but it's still annoying.

I'd try the antihistamine and moisturise thoroughly. I feel better if I'm all greased up but rarely manage it.

MrsP2015 · 04/02/2020 22:53

Try QV cream. It's available on prescription or you can buy for afew pounds- it's been a lifesaver for us.

NeverForgetYourDreams · 04/02/2020 22:56

I wake up itching. It's péri menopause I think

Peopleannoyme · 04/02/2020 22:57

Drink plenty of water.as may help.
Could it be over dry skin,?
Liver issues ?
Diabeties ?

Grumpyunleashed · 04/02/2020 23:00

I had chronic spontaneous urticaria.
Caused by stress of moving caffeine, sugar and booze.

Dermal 500 cream or lotion really helps and available at pharmacies as does antihistamine.

Look it up on google, if the rash matches then this is your starting point and go see the DR.

Good luck
