*TMI* thrush treatment

Sorry I know this is a bit gross ect..
I’m 5 months pregnant, all the way throughout I’ve had either bv or thrush. I’ve had a few treatments for it (the cream and the internal tablet) Along side the persistent thrush I’ve had a few UTIs too which have required antibiotics. A dr said basically I’ll continue to have thrush because of the frequent use of antibiotics and to basically crack on with it. Today I was at breaking point with the thrush, I rang my drs and spoken to a locum (?) GP. They said that I need daily thrush treatment for at least a week (both cream and internal tablet) in hope to get rid of it. Am I been unreasonable to think that’s a lot of medication? I also feel really annoyed as if this is the treatment I need why didn’t I get in months ago.

Has your dh been treated too otherwise you're wasting your time.

Halloweenbabyy · 04/02/2020 20:37

He’s had no treatment- it’s never been mentioned

I had recurrent thrush and have to take a tablet a week for 6 months to treat along with a weekly pessary and daily cream. Touch wood so far it's working.

My point is it's not a lot under muenster circumstances but they are strong drugs I would want to check the implications when pregnant

Tyersal · 04/02/2020 20:38

*normal not muenster

dementedpixie · 04/02/2020 20:39

Its normally a course of treatment that should be prescribed in pregnancy

freeingNora · 04/02/2020 20:41

Your DH needs to go get swabbed he could be reinfecting you esp BV

Halloweenbabyy · 04/02/2020 21:23

I’ll suggest to Dh to get checked out too.

www.babycentre.co.uk/a485/thrush-in-pregnancy suggests a 7 day course of treatment for thrush in pregnancy

polarisation · 04/02/2020 22:07

Yup daily pessary is fine for a week, in fact it's the only thing that sorted out my recurring thrush.

I read that recurring thrush (maybe before pregnancy) can be a sign that you're a group b strep carrier so I ordered a testing kit based on that, and I tested positive. Do that might be something to think about or discuss with your midwife.

polarisation · 04/02/2020 22:07

*so not do!

Charis1503 · 04/02/2020 22:08

Sounds a bit crazy that you reached breaking point... called your GP in desperation... They offered you a better/more effective course of treatment and now you are saying you think its too much?! Yes you sound unreasonable.

You probably wernt offered it a few montjs back as its reasonable to try a lower dose first and see how you responded? Doctors dont make a habit of jumping to the highest dose/most intensive treatment plan in the first instant and especially if you are pregnant.

I imagine your partner will need some cream too or a tablet to stop re-occurance in yourself.

dementedpixie · 04/02/2020 22:10

Your dh could take the oral tablet

MayDayHelp · 04/02/2020 22:10

Whack a big lump of coconut oil up there morning and night. Works for me and totally natural.

whistleinthewind · 04/02/2020 22:13

Don't put anything up there without speaking to a doctor.

But I had horrendous thrush infections when pregnant, and I had the pessary prescribed and had a 7 day course. You do need to be careful of the tablet when pregnant so check with your gp. Your OH will need to be treated regardless of symptoms - he can just take the over the counter tablet

LisBethSalander07 · 04/02/2020 22:17

I had this in all my pregnancies. It's fine to use the 7 day course, and it does work. You just need to be careful of inserting the pessary too near your cervix.

And make sure that your partner uses the cream daily too, otherwise he'll just be giving it back to you.

Thanks guys! Feel very reassured now x

Tea tree oil works a treat for me. Soak a cotton make-up pad in water and shake on a few drops of TTO. Wipe down there and wait for the burn! If a couple of days of that doesn’t clear it up, a tampon with a few drops of TTO should kick it. No idea if it’s safe in pregnancy though.
