AIBU or is this the singular most insane piece of legislation I have ever heard of?

People under investigation for child abuse, including sexual abuse, will be permitted to personally interview their alleged victims in certain circumstances under new Tusla investigatory procedures.

What on earth are they fucking thinking?

I've been wracking my brain and cannot think of one situation where this could be deemed appropriate!? These guidelines are to be implemented this June!!

Further rollbacks of protection for children. What adult survivor of abuse would ever have the strength to sit through something like that. The perverted must be over the moon at the thought of victimising the abused adult/child again. It’s the perfect way of keeping victims of abuse quiet. “If you tell anyone I’m going to pull you apart in court”. Well done, on making child abuse even easier.

AngstyAnnie · 04/02/2020 19:29

Irish government agency not protecting victims of abuse... well that's hardly a new development is it?!

YANBU OP that's horrific.

OhDeez · 04/02/2020 19:35

We have a horrific history as regards abuse in Ireland. This is just incomprehensible. All about the alleged abuser's rights. And the children are left at the bottom of the fucking pile again. This has made me so angry!

What possible perceived benenfit can there be in allowing an alleged abuser to question the complainant? There is no benefit, unless to strike fear into the hearts of victims!

I’m bumping this, because the issue is so important.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 05/02/2020 16:30

It's gob smackingly awful. I can't begin to understand who thought this was a good idea. Well actually, I can, but they are thoughts I'd rather not have Sad

MrOnionsBumperRoller · 05/02/2020 16:37

WTAF?

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 05/02/2020 16:39

There seems to be a concerted effort by those in power to role back children and and women’s safety. It’s widespread and horrific.

cstaff · 05/02/2020 17:09

Bloody hell - it is hard enough to get a genuine case through the courts without making it even harder for the victims. What are they thinking of.

Maybe the nuns or priests can get back to their old ways again without any worries of being charged and every one just turning a blind eye - yeah lets just go back to the last century.
