Tonight I cooked a lovely pasta dish with prawns, cherry tomatoes, philly cheese and a several other ingredients. My husband said............ very tasty, which packet is this from?
Now I do all the cooking , most often from scratch unless short of time. I quite enjoy cooking and he does other chores.
Now the but.............he’s always making “jokes” like that. Often saying to people things like..........Ragazza keeps stuff in the oven because it’s never on or Ragazza has to be coaxed into the kitchen. He thinks he’s funny. He’s NOT!
Tonight I told him how rude he is and he’s acting all hurt! Would you find this enraging? Best way to deal with it?

I think this is his way of acknowledging that you are doing the cooking and it’s really nice. But he is probably too young/ daft/ immature/ closed in/ unable to say that he appreciates it in public.

I imagine he is acting hurt, because. He is absolutely gutted that he has hurt you, and it has come as a big surprise.

Those jokes are the type of jokes that men do with others men, he probably hadn’t realised it was hurtful to you.

I suspect if he is a decent man that he will learn and change his behaviour , I personally don’t think it’s A big deal in the long run.

Personal experience of course.

"..... very tasty, which packet is this from?"...

Im sorry you are upset OP.

(But missing the point completely...I'm a terrible cook and I'd take this as a compliment!)

MaggieAndHopey · 04/02/2020 19:36

He annoyed you, you told him so, end of story as far as I can see.

TwentyViginti · 04/02/2020 19:38

Right, £1 frozen meals for one for him for a week.

GoodDogBellaBoo · 04/02/2020 19:41

I want the recipe too..sounds lovely!

Cherrysoup · 04/02/2020 19:42

Persistent stupid comments re your cooking? Tell everyone he jokes with that he does fuck all, ha ha, only joking! I’d have serious words and ask why he feels the need to put you down so consistently.

Kalifa · 04/02/2020 19:42

You should start making jokes at his expense too. Maybe lame penis jokes?
Husband started watering his penis daily in the hope it will grow
H’s penis has a hole on it coz he is open minded
H’s penis is bent to the left coz he is right handed
You get my drift...

Elizadoeslittle19 · 04/02/2020 19:50

^^ @Kalifa your reply made me chuckle!!
@Indecisiveragazza , as a one off it wouldn't bother me, but if it's all the time then yes this would irritate me. Your DH IBU for acting like a baby because you have told him you don't like something. If it carries on definitely take @kalifa's advice or LTB !!

tillytoodles1 · 04/02/2020 19:52

My H used to make stupid remarks like and then say "it was only a joke" I used to say that "it's only a joke if it's funny".

Littlemeadow123 · 04/02/2020 19:52

Laugh it off while putting him in charge of tomorrow's dinner - no ready made sauces allowed.

Indecisiveragazza · 04/02/2020 20:21

Oh, some tempting ideas. The dog food pie................mmmmm.

He never cooks but he does do many other things.......all the ironing, clearing up, share of general housework so things are fairly evenly split.
I’ve made it abundantly clear tonight that his funnies are drastically unfunny. I’ve shown displeasure in the past but not as vehemently. He’s not an idiot. I have a feeling he got the message this time.
Ironfloor, Fry up cherry tomatoes, some sundried toms in their oil, chopped asparagus spears, some mushrooms, garlic paste, prawns or flaked hot smoked salmon. You can add any veg you fancy. Mix in Philadelphia cheese.........I used the light and then at the end some plain yogurt. This makes the sauce nice and creamy. Serve with any pasta you fancy................. or you can open a packet!!!! 😉 Really it’s just a pot luck sauce.
