Sick leave/Maternity pay

Hi I don't know if anyone can help with this but I would appreciate any input. (And I know it's not quite aibu but I know this has a lot of traffic)

I work in a school - break up for half term 14th feb then maternity will officially start 24th February, I will be getting paid statutory maternity not being paid by my school.

I'm really really struggling with PGP - my head teacher saw me hobbling around this morning and told me if I need to go off early she will support me 100 as she can see I'm in pain.

Now to the question -

If I get signed off by my doctor (as advised by physio a few weeks ago) will I get sick pay from my company until my maternity starts?

Sorry for rambling just wanted to give as much detail as possible.

Tia x

Would you normally get sick pay? They should follow the same policy as normal I think but at some point in your pregnancy your company can "force" you to start your maternity leave if you're off sick

How many weeks are you? it triggers your maternity leave to start early.

As far I am aware if you go on sick leave it triggers your maternity leave to start early.

If you are 36w or more then ML will immediately start.
If you are less than 36w, your SL will cover you until 36w but ML will automatically commence from 36 onwards.

I think you need to read your maternity policy; prior to 36 weeks I get sick pay and then any pregnancy related sickness after 36 weeks automatically starts my maternity leave and pay.
How far along are you? I’d be cautious of starting your maternity leave early as I’ve found that my PGP has got better.

If you are off with pregnancy related sickness in the last 4 weeks before your due date then they can started your maternity leave from then.

Thanks for the replies guys!

That was my worry - I'm 35 weeks tomorrow so would mean that my maternity would start from next Tuesday (11th) instead of 24th. My concern isn't the time off it's the pay.

I may just have to suck it up, although these last 48 hours it has got increasingly worse to the point where I feel like my pelvis is splitting in two 😭

Yes if you take any sickness within four weeks of your due date your maternity leave would be triggered

don’t put yourself at risk by forcing yourself to stay at work for the sake of three weeks
