I’ve had my cats for 6 years since they were kittens. The boy cat has always been very loving and affectionate, loves to be cuddled and purrs like mad. My girl cat has always been the absolute opposite! Very grumpy, not loving or anything- mostly ignores you and only wants to know when there’s food involved. But since becoming pregnant she is literally a different cat. She’s so needy it’s unreal, she even sleeps on me now. She screams for attention and just wants constant love. Am I been stupid to think this is because she knows I’m pregnant? He has not changed at all - still the same cat.

100%! One of the horses I look after has taken to sniffing and nudging my bump, funnily enough my own horse hasn’t noticed a thing! 🙄

Lotts123 · 02/02/2020 12:26

In the week before I found out I was pregnant my cat bought me home a ‘present’ every day for a week. Something that only usually happens once or twice after I’ve come back from holiday!

During my pregnancy she would have to touch me when I was sitting on the sofa. Even if she sat on the back, one paw always stretched out to touch me.

WombatStewForTea · 02/02/2020 12:26

My dog is totally oblivious although my bump makes a useful pillow Grin my MIL's dog definitely knows though and has been very affectionate throughout which is unusual for him.

Jezzballs2000 · 02/02/2020 12:26

My moody cat has been noticeably more affectionate as I hit second trimester! Making up for all the aches and pains. Also just had some cold pizza in bed, highly recommended. Grin

It’s possible there’s something different about the way you smell to animals due to the hormones etc

Halloweenbabyy · 02/02/2020 12:55

Ah she’s back again. I could be I smell different?

My neighbours dog was very friendly, liked given hugs, usually aiming at the waist... Except pregnant women, he would go for the thighs in his hugs. His owner kept many pregnancies secret until the appropriate time.

GoldenBlue · 02/02/2020 13:03

My cats reacted strongly when I was pregnant, suddenly becoming lap cats. They noted the change within a week or 2 of conception. I assume it's due to different pheromones

TheDarkPassenger · 02/02/2020 13:05

My friends dog who was quite aggressive and wouldn’t come near any visitors took to sitting by my feet every time and didn’t like anyone coming near me.

Had the baby and the little (big) bastard didn’t wanna know anymore!

It’s very bizarre it must be the smell

esmerelda1988 · 02/02/2020 13:07

I read somewhere that you're warmer when pregnant so cats like snuggling with you more..my cat is always pretty needy but even more so this last week, constantly wants to sit on my lap Smile

krustykittens · 02/02/2020 13:18

I had a horse that became very protective of me when I was pregnant. She would not allow other horses near me or men. She would nuzzle my bump and when the baby was big enough for her to feel the kicks she would press her nose against my bump and wait for a kick, step back eyes wide and snorting when she felt one and then shove her nose back against my bump, which actually hurt a little so I had to shove her off! She was a real nanny with the kids once they started toddling as well. She had had a couple of goals herself, so she knew what was going on.

Bloodless · 02/02/2020 13:24

Once When I was pregnant I was sitting on the armchair with my two chihuahuas sleeping on my knee. Baby started kicking and it woke & startled the 2 dogs 😆 the look one of them was giving my belly was so funny, a mixture of suspicion and wtf. They lay back down, gingerly, only for it to happen again. Third time one of them started growling at my belly 🤣😆 so funny

TheFuckingDogs · 02/02/2020 13:34

My grumpy moody cat definitely knew when I was preggers

Hotseat · 02/02/2020 14:33

Your pregnant what?

thesuninsagittarius · 02/02/2020 14:42

I think animals can pick up on these things, often before we do. When I was only 4/5 weeks pregnant with each of my children, my mum's collie would follow me around looking anxious. When I sat down, she would sit in front of me and stare at me in a worried way. When the babies were born she would attach herself as bodyguard/nanny and 'herd' them when they started toddling.

Soundbyte · 02/02/2020 14:52

I’ve got two boy cats and two girls. The two boys and one of the girls is really stupidly affectionate anyway, but the other girl is aloof, independent and not remotely arsed about people in the slightest. I’ve had them all for five years.

I was pregnant 3 years ago with my toddler and my ‘grumpy’ cat became my friend, following me around, sitting on my lap & perching on the side of the bath when I went in there. I was astounded! When the pregnancy was over she went right back to how she had been before.

A few months ago I was walking up the stairs and she was at the top seemingly pacing back and forth and she couldn’t seem to wait for me to get to her. She wound herself around my legs, stretched up my side trying to climb me and made little chirrup noises. I sat down with her and she actually let me fuss her, and she gave me a head bump.. first time EVER. I found out about a week later that I was pregnant. She’s been even more affectionate this time around than last, she literally follows me everywhere, jumps on my lap when I’m on the loo, sleeps under the cover next to me at night and scrabbles/scratches/yowls to get into the same room as me if the door is shut. It’s nuts and so full on I cant escape her! It is lovely though and I know she will stop again once baby is born.

PrincessSloth · 02/02/2020 14:59

Your pregnant what?

Oh fgs BORE OFF. Why do you have to ruin a funny/cute thread.

Do you have NOTHING better to do doing on a Sunday afternoon?

DorotheaHomeAlone · 02/02/2020 15:05

My (female) cat is a as leats friendly but has been effectively stalking me throughout my pregnancy. She is on me all night whereas before she slept downstairs. Sometimes I wake up in the night and she’s just sat inches away staring at my face and purring. She keeps licking me and has woken me a few times trying to lick inside my ears. In my previous pregnancies this all stopped abrupt the second the baby arrived.

modgepodge · 02/02/2020 15:10

My cat seemed to know before I did, she came and slept with me on my bed which she has NEVER done before. Found out I was pregnant the next day. She was more affectionate generally throughout my pregnancy I’d say.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 02/02/2020 15:19

I did a (healthcare) domiciliary visit when about 9 weeks pregnant and not showing at all. The woman and her husband were open mouthed as their cat padded down on me and settled on my lap. Apparently in the years they'd had her, they'd never seen her settle on anyone's lap before.

ToriaPumpkin · 02/02/2020 15:37

My friend's Westie worked out I was pregnant before I'd told them, he kept climbing up to sit on me on the sofa despite generally being quite aloof. Another friend had been TTC a while and her dogs suddenly started snuggling up to her despite her getting negative results. She remembered they'd done it during her previous pregnancy so tested again and found out she was pregnant. I assume, as mentioned, it's a hormone/pheromone thing.

user1493413286 · 02/02/2020 15:39

My cat wouldn’t leave me alone when I was pregnant, normally she didn’t bother with me but she’d just sit there close to me all the time so I definitely think she knew

Halloweenbabyy · 02/02/2020 15:42

@PrincessSloth 🤣🤣🤣🤣

My cat went right off me when I was pregnant, even very early on.
I wondered whether I had a different smell or something.
