To travel to York tomorrow?

My friend and I, and our young children, had plans to travel to York tomorrow. I think it'll be fine but she is concerned since the confirmed coronavirus in York and isn't sure. Would you go?

I’d go

kittykatkitty · 31/01/2020 18:44

I would honestly go.

FenellaMaxwell · 31/01/2020 18:45

Honestly it’s going to spread anyway, it makes no odds going to York. It’s also nowhere near as bad as they are making it out to be. Just don’t snog or lick anyone who has recently been to China or who has in turn snogged/licked the infected people in question and you’ll be fine.

LongWalkShortPlank · 31/01/2020 18:46

I had planned on licking all the people, but will refrain!

Anyone else? Her worry is making me wonder if I should be more worried.

Go...

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 31/01/2020 19:14

I live in York. I’m still licking randomers at my usual rate.

LongWalkShortPlank · 31/01/2020 19:15

Thank you! Will resume usual licking.

What's in York?

Clangus00 · 31/01/2020 19:18

No offence, but it’s just a strain of ‘flu.
You are around 99% likely to survive ‘flu.
You are around 97% likely to survive Corona.
Just use precautions and sense.

Are you staying at the Stay City?
A friend is staying in it and when we emailed him today after seeing the news it was the first time when he heard that something had happened. Everything is as usual.
I would take wipes and sanitary hand gel with you and plenty of tissues, just in case you need them and shops are busy. But tbh it’s what I take with me while out and about anyway.

coconuttelegraph · 31/01/2020 19:25

I'd go, there could be infected people everywhere, you can't stay in your house indefinitley

Oly4 · 31/01/2020 19:27

Of course you should go. Unless you came within 2m of those infected you are not at risk. Also agree with upthread, most people who get it just feel like they have flu

eeeyoresmiles · 31/01/2020 19:40

I think if the friend I was going with was saying she wasn't sure, I would definitely just say let's go another time. Whether she's right or wrong, I'd be thinking she wouldn't enjoy it and I think that would spoil the day a bit.

With flu, some people are already immune or vaccinated, but not with this. It'll end up all over, but I wouldn't specially want to head out to meet it early, and it would be hard not to be thinking about it if I was going to touristy places in York right now.
