To ask anyone who works in marketing etc to realise that printed mailshots are a waste of time, money & paper

Every day we seem to receive an ever increasing pile of advertising crap through the post. A proportion is to the occupier but a hefty slug is organisations who have somehow got either I or DH name. We always try to opt out of marketing but seem to be receiving it anyway.

To all those of you who work in advertising & marketing, can I ask that you just stop putting out these campaigns? Please?

We don't even look at them. They are lost in a sea of junk that goes directly in the recycling bin. It's an enormous waste.

A lot of people who work in marketing aren't actually the ones making the decision. Myself included (though it's only a minor part of my job).

God, some people REALLY would benefit from either (a) getting a hobby, or (b) taking their heads out of whatever it’s wedged in to see that there are waaaaay bigger problems than Decorator Dave putting the word out about his business.

I agree with the OP. From letterbox straight to the recycling bin. We don't even look at them.

They all in the bin here. Unless it’s an envelope the toddler bins them for me. Envelopes I check to see if spam or not and again just binned not even opened.

Its not an odd one. I'm getting 15 or 20 a day. We have had to purchase a second paper recycling bin from the council.

MPS blocks a relatively limited selection of things.

In my area we also get independent delivery guys who will come putting 4 or 5 things through the door, in addition to the postman.

I wonder if I can actually just get rid of my letterbox entirely and leave a bin by the door. Grin. I'm trying to think if I actually receive anything at all i need through the post... I managing banking & utilities & tax online.

Actually it's the paper industry that keeps all the Scandinavian forests in place. Without the demand for paper we'd be a largly treeless Europe.

YABU - there are generally speaking more effective than online marketing sources for many organisations and you should research sustainable paper sources which should be clearly marked on these materials. It doesn't make sense to continually cut down trees and not replace them. Newly planted trees contribute more C02 to the atmosphere than established ones.

I'm assuming that if you feel this way then you have done your research and don't consume any food products - mass produced meats /a number of plant milks/ grains that result in mass deforestation to feed western demands that is not sustainable/replanted ........?
