Obviously rather tongue-in-cheek, but I love this programme and it quietly covers so many teen sexual problems, it's great!

How marvelous is Gillian Anderson in it? Can't believe she was Scully!

SweetpeaOrMarigold · 30/01/2020 12:13

Yes! Shes amazing. The whole cast is great and the writing is superb.

I don't remember a huge fuss when the first series was out. Since series 2 literally everyone is talking about it. What's changed?

20viona · 30/01/2020 12:19

It's fabulous! Hope they do more!

Localher0 · 30/01/2020 12:19

It is brilliant. I'm really impressed by how it covers so many issues that teenagers (and adults) are going through. Aimee's story in S2 is particularly relevant. Both my kids have watched it and I'm catching up with them - sometimes I might be 😳 that they've seen things but it's all handled so well.

Shannith · 30/01/2020 12:23

Agree it's amazing.

Best thing is that teenagers love it without being made to watch it.

Very well acted. I love love love Eric. Complex, funny and touching.

YouNeedToCalmDown · 30/01/2020 12:33

Eric is adorable. I also think the actors who play Maeve and Lily will be break out stars from this show.
Maeve reminds me of Margot Robbie and Lily is also just incredible. Cue the penis hands Grin.

fairydustandpixies · 30/01/2020 12:50

I love Eric too! But my heart breaks for Adam. I hope it works out for him in S3.

SweetpeaOrMarigold · 30/01/2020 13:39

I watched series 1 and didn't really hear of anyone else that did, and suddenly it's really popular which is fab. Drives me mad when things are cancelled after one series and I've enjoyed them.
I'm only part-way through series 2, absolutely love Eric and just want something good to happen to Adam.
Maeve reminds me of me a little, and yes shes so like Margot Robbie.
I love the costume and cars being slightly odd too, can't quite place it into a year, which makes it more interesting again.

Isn’t it rated 18?

TomPinch · 30/01/2020 14:21

I watched one episode. One notch up from Carry On, but not as funny. Can't understand the rave reviews, to be honest.

Has society really got this puerile?

BonnesVacances · 30/01/2020 14:24

It's fab. Superb writing and portrayal.

Helloitsmemargaret · 30/01/2020 14:25

There are rave reviews from people who watched the whole series @TomPinch. It's hard to make a judgement if you've not seen something.

mammmamia · 30/01/2020 22:09

It is excellent. So well observed and written. DH and I loved series 1. We haven’t started series 2 yet. Looking forward to watching it.

Strugglingtoquit · 30/01/2020 22:20

It’s brilliant! I watched season 1 last year mainly cause I like Gillian Anderson. Was initially slightly off put by the oddness of a posh looking English sixth form being so Americanised. But really glad I kept with it! Then season 2 I binge watched in a weekend.

I think it’s good to show sex as full of hang ups and weirdness and issues, not just over-romanticised Hollywood type sex.

TeddybearBaby · 31/01/2020 11:43

It’s rated 18 isn’t it?! My 13 year old has watched it, I didn’t realise it was an 18!! I haven’t watched it because I almost don’t want to know what he’s seen now he’s seen it!

bettytaghetti · 31/01/2020 11:53

I love that you can't place what decade or where it is; think it just means that all of these problems are universal and timeless.

@Localher0 I also found Aimee's story so poignant too. I guess it's something a lot of us have experienced.
I think a lot of the characters' stories really developed in S2 and made them all so much more relatable. Very moving and funny at the same time.

All of the actors are so good, it's surprising that so few of them have been in much before. Hopefully we will be seeing more of them.

BonnesVacances · 31/01/2020 11:56

DS(15) started watching it last night (on his own. I told him on no account to be tempted to watch it with us!)

I'm normally very rigid about age restrictions but figured he'd be better off watching this now, than waiting until he was 18. I was torn as he's a fairly innocent boy and I didn't want to ruin that innocence, but I'd rather he was exposed to realistic sex than porn, especially before sex becomes a pressure in his life. So I encouraged it really. He said it was funny but very cringe. Grin

MulberryPeony · 31/01/2020 12:03

Argh we don’t have Netflix at the minute so can’t watch season 2!

Localher0 · 31/01/2020 12:14

It's also got an amazing soundtrack! We've been creating playlists from it.

S2 has also introduced the parent/teenager relationship. Especially our conflicting emotions as they can go from being adorable to vile to adorable within about 2 mins! I've cried quite a bit during these scenes as I look at my 18 & 16 yr olds and am in awe of the really special people they have become but know with every day they lose a little bit of their attachment to me (which is a good thing). Got to go now as have something in my eye......

SnarkyGorgon · 31/01/2020 12:25

It’s the best thing on Tv, I’ve been recommending it to everyone I know. I wish it had been around when I was a teenager. Oh and Gillian Anderson’s outfits, swoon!

Thesearmsofmine · 31/01/2020 14:30

I love this show, enjoyed the first series and was happy to see if back. We binge watched it last weekend. The scene with the girls talking about their experiences of harassment from men was very good.

Penis hands 😂

BonnesVacances · 20/02/2020 09:29

Apart from nodding in approval at how well represented the issues are and how no one bats an eyelid when a character starts dating someone of the same sex, I also love trying to spot the nods to the John Hughes films. The Breakfast Club/ detention scene was obvious. But can anyone figure out what the scene was with Jackson and his mums when the car broke down? The way they were standing seemed so familiar.
