Hi all - I would like to take my son age 12 to watch a football match - can't afford the major team tickets that he likes - but thinking of taking him to see a low key team cheap tickets preferably London or M25 area. ideally a team not known for trouble or racism as we are not white and I'm a Lone parent - so probably just me and him will go)
Thanks

Charlton has a good atmosphere and not too expensive. I have also taken kids to see Sutton United, not a big club but we all enjoyed it

MrsAgassi · 30/01/2020 12:25

Brentford or QPR. I know season ticket holders at both, very family friendly.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 30/01/2020 12:32

I support a different club, but IMO Fulham has the best atmosphere of any ground I've been to. The neutral end is brilliant. They're not in the premier league, although the standard of football is still loads better than you'll get in the bottom two tiers.

If cost is an issue look at cup games - at the weekend we went to MCFC v Fulham in the FA cup and it was £38 for all of us. You can minimize your chances of racist remarks/swearing/general anti social behavior by going in the Family Stand wherever you choose.

Or how about going to see one of the top women's teams? We go to MCFC women a few times a year, and the atmosphere is superfriendly. We went to the Women's FA Cup final at Wembley last season - tickets were (£15 adults, free for kids IIRC), massive crowd, would totally recommend.

Tickets are released tomorrow to the public for Tottenham so won't be able to book them til then.

Legwarmers · 30/01/2020 16:54

@Brefugee he supports a European team! But it's a thought

Southend United is quite nice. You can come with me.

PhilSwagielka · 30/01/2020 17:00

How about Charlton? Or Palace? Or a women's team? Arsenal have an amazing women's team.

Hillbillyhotel · 30/01/2020 17:07

My 4 year old DS goes to watch MK Dons. We’re Tottenham fans but take him there as there’s space so he can get a seat to see and it’s not at all aggressive.

randomchap · 30/01/2020 17:18

Bromley is a lovely day out.

Completely agree, would have been a great away visit for me and the DC if Bromley hadn't won.

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 30/01/2020 17:23

Seconding going to see a women's team. We've been to see our local team, who are in the Women's Super League. The tickets are cheap as chips but you'll see some excellent football and the atmosphere is much quieter and more family-friendly, IME.

Legwarmers · 30/01/2020 18:07

@Rachie1973 that's kind of you!

I took dc1 when he was 6 to a friendly game. Crystal Palace against Chelsea. Pre season. Quite cheap and he loved it, football mad and I was alone parent.
Very nervous but it was so much fun and very friendly.

The season ends soon, so maybe have a look out for when it starts up again.

Whiskeywithwater · 30/01/2020 18:40

I was going to say Southend too - easy to get to on the train too.

superram · 30/01/2020 18:46

Hanwell town £8 for you £1 for your son, covered seating and standing. Parking. Best chips in the league. Covered seating and standing. Really friendly and relaxed.

Otherwise Brentford is nice.

Brefugee · 30/01/2020 19:19

@Legwarmers - if you don't mind saying which team does he support?

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 30/01/2020 19:28

Does it have to be men's football? There are some very good women's super league (and other divisions of course) teams around with tickets cheap and often available on the gate.

Spamantha · 30/01/2020 19:29

Another vote for Dulwich Hamlet.

Legwarmers · 31/01/2020 05:47

@Brefugee - can I Pm you the name of the team as I don't want to out myself.

Brefugee · 31/01/2020 13:17

oh gosh no worries - I'm just nosey! Flowers

pelirocco123 · 31/01/2020 13:20

Mos , if not all clubs will have areas that are friendlier then others , avoid the ardent followers end , they may even have family areas

Dontdisturbmenow · 31/01/2020 13:24

I took my DS to see Spurs when they were playing one of the leagues that isn't premiership (yep, that's as far as my knowledge goes!). They were playing Wimbledon if I remember properly and the tickets were about £10 each.

National games mid week are much cheaper.

TheTruthAboutLove · 31/01/2020 13:53

I go to football regularly.

The best way to see them is to go for EFL Cup and FA Cup games. Most teams in the Premier League reduce their tickets massively. Newcastle were £10 and kids for £1, but I've seen Arsenal tickets for £20/£10 depending where you sit. European games are also cheaper too, especially the group stages.

I've been to hundreds of football games and only ever experienced violence once, and that was because an away fan bought a ticket in the home end and celebrated a goal - which to be honest is ridiculous. Football isn't half as expensive as people seem to think anyway!
