Age to toilet unassisted?

My 3yo DS has just moved room in nursery. They seem to be expecting him to use the toilet alone, hence 3 lots of wet clothes.

AIBU to think most 3yo still need help in the toilet?

The OPs DC is toilet trained and has just not been taught to deal with his clothes. So not sure why the talk of developmental delays when there is no evidence of that.

When I saw your initial question my instinctive answer was three.

I can imagine in big toilets with big doors etc some might need help.

Mine could both manage completely alone at 3. I taught them to wipe as soon as they could use a proper toilet. They managed fine.

Oh and they definitely changed her into dry clothes when she did have an accident. Once they even just changed her knickers because she had not sat on properly and that's all that had got wet.
I have also noticed from what the nursery manager says that they are all reminded half way through the morning to go to the toilet. My dd just lets her teacher know if she's already been

I expect DS to toilet himself, including wiping his own bum. Sometimes he is amazed by the fact he has managed to pee up his top and proud enough to tell everyone. Nursery will ensure he has clean clothes but again he can undress/dress himself. Wouldn’t be suprised if he let someone else do it for him though!

Nurseries are supposed under OFSTED to encourage independence. So if they think a DC could do something with encouragement, then they will do that. They would get a poorer rating if they helped children do things they could maybe manage themselves.
