Do you have a hatred for Phoebe Waller-Bridge because of her originality or some other reason?
Did you do it as a joke or to wind up someone?
Did you hope it would end the National Television Awards?

Please confess why.

What I do find obvious is the cloud of smug emanating from your post. Makes you sound like a bit of a twat

If that's directed at me you must be hard of reading, I"m pointing out a factual difference not making any kind of judgement. How are you possibly getting any kind of smugness from that? Hmm

I think it's terrible, however both my parents and my sister think it's hilarious. Different people like different things, imagine that.

In other words DFOD. Biscuit

I liked Fleabag and found it amusing / engaging but she wasn't that original as ' talking to the fourth wall' has been done before. It was her I liked as the character was flawed and the characters well thought out.
'Mum ' should have been nominated too as that was also very good but overlooked this year! So many clever writers around and it can't be easy to do either.

Iooselipssinkships · 29/01/2020 19:22

Well the Tories won so this doesn't surprise me either.

I don't like it at all

millimollimandi · 29/01/2020 19:32

I didn't vote - but if it had been between Mrs Browns Boys and Fleabag I would have gone for the former. I watched the first episode of Fleabag and a bigger load of tripe I haven never seen - why on earth she is lauded so much is totally beyond me...

Bartlet · 29/01/2020 19:33

Hugospritz - That’s very charitable of the voting public’s intentions but this is the 4th time that this moronic drivel has won.

Patroclus · 29/01/2020 19:43

Th guy who makes it is a real, real first class arsehole. Well known for it.

Looneytune253 · 29/01/2020 19:44

Wow I think your post is massively judgemental. I'm not a massive fan but I'll watch it and find it amusing! My mother in law absolutely loves it. We are both, very different, but civilised human beings lol. Never heard of the other woman! I did vote for mrs browns boys as that was my fave out of the choices available. Simple

The80sweregreat · 29/01/2020 19:51

That's sad to read that the main character isn't nice as he seems ok! Never met him though ( and never will )
I guess most media types are not that amicable. I guess it goes with the territory I suppose.

Igotthemheavyboobs · 29/01/2020 19:59

Fleabag, After Life and Derry Girls were all in same group so people with taste split the vote

I can't believe Mrs Brown's Boys beat Derry Girls for an award! It's so funny! Not seen Fleabag or After Life so no idea what they are like.

Have only seen 2 episodes of Mrs Brown's Boys, mmm not the best maybe had a few chuckles here and there but could see it getting really irritating, really fast!

The80sweregreat · 29/01/2020 20:11

I suppose that older people tend to vote for these awards and spend more time watching MBB , this morning etc? I'm in the 'old ' category myself but I don't watch these or vote but it's the only reason I could think that these shows seem to win ?
Other comedy shows are a bit more contemporary and less popular ? I saw the voting page in my TV guide but I couldn't be bothered to send it in or go online or whatever!

DinosaurDreams · 29/01/2020 20:17

I don’t know which one I find more cringeworthy - Mrs Brown’s Boys or Fleabag.

madcatladyforever · 29/01/2020 20:18

That programme is absolute garbage.

FenellaVelour · 29/01/2020 20:20

the demographic of people who vote for tv awards shows isn't going to have much overlap with the viewers of teabag

This one?

T-Bag is superior to both Fleabag and MBB!

The80sweregreat · 29/01/2020 20:27

What is T bag? Not heard of this before.

shock with your username? 😁
Children’s TV show from the mid-80s, on around the same sort of time as Knightmare. Loved it!

IHadADreamWhichWasNotAllADream · 29/01/2020 20:35

I’m pretty sure that most of the people who voted for MBB did so because it’s their favourite comedy show, and nothing to do with Fleabag. Most people who watch MBB don’t watch Fleabag (this is a mathematical certainty given their respective viewing figures). The more people who watch a show, the more people who are available to vote for it. You can get around it with obsessive or coordinated fandoms but basically it’s difficult to beat the numbers.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 29/01/2020 20:37

I think it says more about the quality, or rather, lack of it, that there is to vote for. Is there really any point when the same programmes win each year. There needs to be a massive shake up of mainstream popular programming.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 29/01/2020 20:37

The only thing on there worth voting for was After Life. I'm no Ricky Gervais fan (I think he's as funny as a haemorrhoid) but After Life was excellent. So very well observed and in parts like a documentary of how grief can affect you when you lose a partner. Fleabag is a weird one, couldn't get into it. But MBB is shockingly shit.

Sweetdreamer93 · 29/01/2020 20:41

I have seen the show live and it is funnier than TV.
The best stuff happens off camera.

Lolo1845 · 29/01/2020 20:41

I voted for Derry girls. Second choice would have been fleabag. I used to like mmb but just think it's got old. But obviously plenty of people still love it.

AnnieOnAMapleLeaf · 29/01/2020 20:42

I love Mrs Brown's Boys and I couldn't give a toss whether you approve or not!
