To complain to nursery

I got a call at work from nursery at midday today explaining DS 2 was poorly and had diarrhoea and I needed to collect him ASAP.

It's possibly the worst day at work for it to happen, we've got 2 people off sick and 1 on holiday and I left just 3 people at work, obviously just one of those things but still annoying.

Anyway, I rush to nursery which is a 40 min walk from work thinking he's properly poorly and hoping he's not passed anything on...and there he is in the same clothes I left him in running around with the other children. He then has a huge tantrum because he doesn't want to leave (he's usually there till 6).

His keyworker then tells me about a loose poo he did on the toilet 90 minutes earlier.

Their policy clearly states that any child having 2 loose bowel movements in a day will be sent home. Fair enough, but he'd done 1 loose one on the toilet and was in normal spirits and eating plenty.

He eats a lot of fruit and weetabix and it's quite usual for him to have slightly looser movements, they are aware of this.

This now means he cannot go in tomorrow and DH or I will have to take an unnecessary day off.

Of course I understand that they need to control passing bugs. But they hadn't isolated him, he was playing with the other children. And he'd taken himself to the toilet rather than shit himself due to diarrhoea.

WIBU to gently complain and ask them to let him come in tomorrow as he is completely fine and no more poo over 5 hours later?

If he doesn't have another loose poo, I would defo ask them to let him come back in!

Thanks, I think I will phone in the morning. He's been absolutely fine since I picked him up.

Thinking back I should have raised it more with them at the time but I was so annoyed and trying to deal with his tantrum.

I'd take him in tomorrow and explain what you've said.

They’ve gone against their own policy then. I would take him in tomorrow and ask for this afternoon to be refunded. Sounds like an over reaction on their part but then they should have isolated him if they thought it was contagious.
