AIBU to ask for cafe/restaurant/stuff to do in Nottingham

Clearly using the AIBU board for traffic purposes. Sorry, not sorry.

I happen to be in central Nottingham for work purposes next month for a couple of nights and it happens to be my birthday while I'm there. Husband joining me also. We have a car. Please give me your recommendations for food and fun. Can be cheap and cheerful, posh and expensive, or anything in between. Breakfast, lunch and dinner recommendations all gratefully received. Also, we'll have some free time during the day, so anything fun/quirky/interesting to do or look at would be good. Thanks.

Baresca is fab if you like Spanish tapas or Yamas for Greek tapas. Another wine bar which is self-service wine is also lovely. 200 degrees coffee shop is great too. Delilah’s is nice for breakfast or lunch. Doughnotts do amazing doughnuts.

I hope you have a great birthday.

Annie's Burger Shack is good, as is Codscallops for fish and chips (it's a sit down place, posher than it sounds). The Galleries of Justice have a new name now I think but were fun to visit. And yes, 200 Degrees for coffee.

Sat Bains for a Birthday treat www.restaurantsatbains.com

The caves underneath the city are absolutely fascinating - there are different entry points I think.

Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem is at the foot of Castle Rock - you could go to the art gallery in the castle and then have a drink at the oldest pub in England, built in 1189 (amazing!)

I haven't been to Nottingham for years, it's probably changed a lot - I'm due a trip there I think!

I’ve thought of some more...

World Service is relatively expensive but special for a birthday meal. There’s Alchemilla too which is also Michelin starred like Sat Bains.

Memsaab is amazing if you like curry.

I agree that Annie’s Burger Shack does amazing burgers if that’s your thing or go to Oscar and Rosie’s for giant sharing pizzas.

Zaap for Thai food.

There’s a Kitty Cafe with cats wandering around if you’re a cat person. There’s a charge to get in though I believe.

The Pudding Pantry does yummy desserts.

The Warsaw Diner does cheap and cheerful breakfasts or Browns is good for breakfast too.

Lost Property, Boilermaker and Hockley Arts Club are great places to go for drinks. There’s the Pitcher and Piano that’s a converted church.

Zaap and Annie's Burger Shack are great places to eat.

The alchemist is a fun place for cocktails (the food is good too). And also underneath the bar Lost Property is a gin bar in a cave which is fun too.

Stringsandthings · 29/01/2020 12:40

Not the best area but in Hyson Green there is a dessert parlour called Yumis which does freshly made warm cookie dough with ice cream. Its the best I have ever had!!

MummyFriend · 29/01/2020 13:05

Boilermaker is a MUST! You'll love it. Do report back and let us know what cocktail you have. WinkGrin

All good advice so far. I love the Jam Cafe, incredibly friendly owner, craft beers and you can get excellent Chinese food there from across the road.

The Nottingham Contemporary art gallery is free to visit, exhibitions usually at least interesting. And there's the New Art Exchange, near the dessert place recommended earlier.

Look on leftlion for what's on/stuff to do.

For brunch there’s Toast on Derby Road www.toastnottingham.co.uk/

Wollaton hall and the industrial museum are a car drive away but make for an interesting couple of hours at little cost.

Didn't see all these updates - thanks again. Didn't realise Nottingham would have so much to offer!

@GinDaddy thank you so much for your suggestion that I eat biscuits, as ever, your input to a thread is so helpful.

If you're there on a Thursday night, go to a Missimp improv jam - always great fun!
