Decided to take the bus instead of tubes home today just because I had some time and like looking down from the top of a double decker and was just reminded of how much I love the city.
I’d say I love (apart from the typical attractions and museums and parks) the sense of just ‘coolness’ around the place- real sense of style with lots of the people you see. And Morley’s (south GrinWink)

I love the people and the movement and all the change. There is always a sense of things moving, evolving, new ideas coming, new people coming. I love it!

Antihop · 28/01/2020 22:44

The huge amount of choice for places to eat. I love eating out.

TSSDNCOP · 28/01/2020 22:47

The big parks, particularly Greenwich.

FamilyOfAliens · 28/01/2020 22:47

It’s like a collection of villages rather than a city, which makes it unique. I wouldn’t ever move back there though.

ItFigures · 28/01/2020 22:48

There’s so much I love, the parks right on my doorstep, the wide variety of places to eat, drink and shop, the various people from all over the world that have decided to live there.

Titsywoo · 28/01/2020 22:48

Everything! It's my happy place. I love the busyness of it. I'm glad i live close enough to go up as often as i fancy. I wish i lived more centrally though. Mayfair maybe? Grin

Newbie1999 · 28/01/2020 22:50

The Southbank.

getupnow · 28/01/2020 22:50

Personally I love the acceptance & encouragement to be individual in terms of how you look. As a Londoner I found it odd when I went to another city for uni & lots of people dressed & styled themselves the same.

Hingeandbracket · 28/01/2020 22:51

Getting the train home

LaLaLanded · 28/01/2020 22:51

Morley’s!!! Grin

So much to do - theatre, museums, shops, food, events. Having DS means that we have actually taken advantage of so much of it.

People from all sorts of backgrounds - never feel like I stick out in London!

And just the vibe - South London here and it’s just awesome. I’m so glad this is where DS is growing up... he has a ridiculous amount of opportunity to do and see awesome stuff.

evilharpy · 28/01/2020 22:53

I lived in London for five years and left it ten years ago and still miss it terribly.

There was always, always something interesting to do, somewhere new to eat, a way to practice a new hobby, a class to learn absolutely anything you fancied. And no matter where you went and what time it was, you could always get home on public transport. Where we live now it's either drive or fork out for an extortionate taxi.

MarySidney · 28/01/2020 22:53

The history
The hidden corners you come across when you walk away from the main streets
The river
The free museums and galleries
The buses and the Tube
The fact that you'll never come to the end of things to see and do.

Kuraokami · 28/01/2020 22:55

The river - and running along it

looondonn · 28/01/2020 22:55

Love love London
Can honestly say it is the best city in the world and I have lived in a number of different cities

I miss living there

Love that you can be open and yourself and be accepted

The team I work with are so humble and highly skilled - diversity ❤️❤️

The bus system is also awesome

Had to move and sadly don't think I will live there again
Do go back for work though and feel very lucky 🍀

Restlessinthenorth · 28/01/2020 22:55

This is such a lovely thread! I lived in London for just 4 years, but every time I go back, it just feels like home. I miss all the things you all describe, so very much!

I'm bringing my partner for a long weekend shortly. He's never been since childhood ShockI just can't wait to show him all the things I love about the city. Recommendations gladly received....

looondonn · 28/01/2020 22:56

And yes to running along the river
Used to live in Westminster and I had the nicest start to my day every morning :)

thepeopleversuswork · 28/01/2020 22:56

what FamilyofAliens said is spot on.

What people don't really realise about London is that noone lives in "London".They live in Camden or Tufnell Park or West Norwood or Mayfair or Shoreditch or Edmonton. There is a general sense of being part of a huge city but every village is different.

That said:
I love living in a city full of people from every country in the world.
I love the rambling little back streets that people don't know about.
The parks
The pubs
The markets
The directness and the deadpan humour
The food -- London has some of the best food in the world
The fact you can be anonymous here and you won't have people tutting over your lifestyle/marital status/asking why you don't "join in", but equally can strike up a conversation in a pub with a stranger.
I love the way it feels very early in the morning before the rest of the world is awake.
Love being up somewhere high and looking down over the river snaking across the city.
Love being on trains in the morning on my way to work and knowing there are millions of people doing the same thing.
Love the City with the contrast between the gleaming towers and the ancient cobbled streets.
Love the fact that you could do something new every day and never run out of things to do.

I adore it and would really struggle to live everywhere else. It does have its downsides, principally that its ridiculously expensive, but its the best city in the world.

AnuvvaMuvva · 28/01/2020 22:57

I love the people - it seems to draw in the sparkliest, brightest, most interesting people. I love the Tube. I love driving around London, where you pass beautiful landmarks every minute. I love how ancient buildings nestle right next to brand-new skyscrapers. I love the parks, bridges, museums. Quirky shops. Theatres. It's all just wonderful.

mumtomaxwell · 28/01/2020 22:57

It’s easy to get out of and get home!

Isithometimeyet0987 · 28/01/2020 23:00

I love that’s there’s always things to do whether it’s with my dh, dd, as a family or with friends. I love how many places there are to eat, drink and socialise. I love the parks a lot! I love that you never feel you stick out in a crowd, no one stares at you no matter how you look. I also love how easy it is to travel around. I love living here and I’ll never move back to Northern Ireland.

getupnow · 28/01/2020 23:01

I love how ancient buildings nestle right next to brand-new skyscrapers

Yes, as a child I was opposed with Tower Bridge & the Tower of London, literally a fairy tale with cars whizzing over & around. Still find them beautiful.

getupnow · 28/01/2020 23:02

I had some Morley's chicken on Sat, so bad but so good!

getupnow · 28/01/2020 23:02

obsessed not opposed!

Isithometimeyet0987 · 28/01/2020 23:03

Oh and the moomin shop in Covent Garden! Dd loves it!

Chickydoo · 28/01/2020 23:04

The museums, the people, the buzz, the life, especially the museums.
The history, architecture. Did I mention the museums?
