Crisps for breakfast on the train!

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 28/01/2020 07:56

WIBU to throw something very heavy at the man loudly eating crisps for breakfast before 8am on the train? (In the quiet coach, as well! 😡) This is after having polished off a Maccy D's breakfast.

BTW for those of you who remember 'Leon chicken satay-gate', I ate my Starbucks porridge in Starbucks before I got on the train so as not to displease the MN population! 😂

I've just had a bag of crisps (ready salted French Fries) for breakfast because of this. Tuesday is suddenly looking good.

nettie434 · 28/01/2020 09:38

Hello chocolatesaltyballs2

Ooh I remember the sataygate thread. It certainly provoked some opinions Grin

I don't get why anyone would apply make-up on a train because a) you have to take your scary make-upless face out the house and into public, and b) the train shakes all over the shop so you'd end up with a mascara wand in your eye!

Now I agree with you on sataygate & too early crisp eating but I have seen some amazing make up on a train artistes. However, the absolute best performance was from a woman applying liquid eyeliner perfectly on a very lurchy London bus. I do sometimes get a bit sniffy about very grubby make up bags Shock

I was in China a few years ago on holiday. We went on the bullet train from Shanghai to Beijing. About half way through the journey people started eating some sort of pot noodle type food, probably tasted nice, but the smell made me really heave! Amazing journey though, an experience travelling that fast by train!

IntermittentParps · 28/01/2020 09:53

I'm the first person to tell people talking loudly in the quiet coach to pack it in, but you've got to let a person eat their crisps!

Cacaca · 28/01/2020 09:55

It’s public transport - but because Mumsnet said so - you cannot dare to eat on a train. Get over yourself.

OlaEliza · 28/01/2020 09:56

I couldn't give a fuck who saw my scary make-up-less face at 5.30am tbh. Eyeliner and mascara on when the train stops. Tbf my train was pretty much empty until it hit the Medway towns. But I do love a train mcds 😋

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 28/01/2020 09:58

@nettie434 that's impressive! I struggle with my mascara even if my husband shakes the bed by sitting on it!

I just ate a packet of giant hoola hoops for breakfast but I was in my car not on public transport.

Natsku · 28/01/2020 10:00

I really want a packet of crisps now, prawn cocktail please.

IntermittentParps · 28/01/2020 10:02

madcatladyforever, what are those giant Hula Hoops like? I haven't tried them yet.

Marshmello · 28/01/2020 10:03

Omg. It's public transport.

Public.

It's just par for the course.

damptowel · 28/01/2020 10:03

Where I live, you're not allowed to eat at all on the trains. It's very nice and quiet and they're extremely clean.

Flippetydip · 28/01/2020 10:15

"Monastic silence coach" - that has sent me into a misty-eyed daydream. I would LOVE that. My greyhound also exists in monastic silence so would surely be allowed to join me there (apart from the fact that she farts like the devil).

CharityDingle · 28/01/2020 10:15

I don't mind someone eating crisps but 'crackling' the pack does my head in. I know that's my own issue. And it's not just crisps, any food packaging that involves 'crackling' noises...it is almost a phobia of mine.

my2bundles · 28/01/2020 10:17

If u are on tne leeds to kings cross of course people will be eating. They even have the trolley selling crisps, sandwiches etc.

Eckhart · 28/01/2020 10:24

@Flippetydip No, no farting in the Monastic Silence Coach. As everybody knows, monks don't fart. Also, not all farts are silent. Can your greyhound guarantee that all her farts will be silent? My dog does the occasional loud one (which surprises her more than anybody)

I love that some people are taking this thread seriously. 'Get over yourself, OP, it's just crisps'

Marshmello · 28/01/2020 10:25

Actually congrats if the worst problem is someone eating a bag of crisps in a public place, and that takes no more than about 2 mins I guess 🙂

Also I think you're being a bit judgemental about what he's having for breakfast. And in that sorry but I think YABU.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 28/01/2020 10:28

Ahem.... It's just crisps AND Maccy D's breakfast actually!

On second train of my trip and just had to move carriages because of someone playing some shite out loud on their iPad. No monastic silence coach on here 🙁

OP posts:
Eckhart · 28/01/2020 10:30

@Marshmello No, some people take up to THREE minutes to eat a bag of crisps, and OP's life is ruined. Can't you understand that? And there's a big campaign re making sure that total strangers eat a healthy breakfast. Haven't you read about it? Where have you BEEN??

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 28/01/2020 10:31

It was a grab bag so at least 7 mins I reckon...

OP posts:
joystir59 · 28/01/2020 10:34

Is he fat?

Flippetydip · 28/01/2020 10:35

@Eckhart - always always her farts are completely silent other than the small pffffffft of escaping gas. She occasionally burps loudly but only when she's just eaten and, as I too would ban eating on trains, that would not happen.

OP - in answer to the original question YANBU.

my2bundles · 28/01/2020 10:36

On the last train journey I took with my son we hasd crisps and ham sandwiches. We where on for an hour but 3 hours total travel time including 2 more trains. The couple sat near us had a picnic complete with wine( anniversary holiday treat) but they where going to an airport a further hour after our stop. None of us complained because we are human beings and understand people need to eat on long journeys. You have no idea how long this persons journey is or when they will have chance for a meal.

UniversalAunt · 28/01/2020 10:42

Breakfast crisp flavours?

Croissant
Egg & bacon
Pain au chocolate
Smokey bacon - done
Dunky boiled egg
Strong coffee & a fag

mastertomsmum · 28/01/2020 10:43

Hmm, eating on the train never used to be a problem. Trains often have tables, cup holders, long journeys. Occasionally, they have buffet cars or trolley buffet, they used to have bars. Stations have fast food to take away so it's assumed food can be eaten on a train. No one used to moan even in the days when fish and chips was all that was obtainable. Leon is often in stations and it's definitely train food - all food is train food.
