to suspect my cleaner is stealing?

Hi,

so I have a had a cleaner for just under a year. They are a group of people (3 or 4) with one lady being the leader. They come as a pair each week and clean for an hour (so I pay them 2 hrs; £24).

Anyway, I notice plastic containers have gone missing - the ones you use to store food in, take sandwiches into work etc. They are good quality ones. I can't think where they could be for the life of me so suspect the cleaner. The leader of the group says she has no idea and they will let me know if they find them.

Thing is, I don't 100% trust them. Just after they started chocolate went missing - they were several pieces in a small bowl. I know that because I don't eat those and had no guests etc. I didn't think much of it, as it was just bloody chocolate. I just suspected they helped themselves to some chocolate.

They also broke things on a couple of occasions without telling me - a soap dish and a illuminated picture on the wall. Again, the latter I have no proof of as it could have fallen down but surely this is unlikely.

I really don't get why someone would steal plastic containers so feel pathetic thinking it, but on the other hand I have no idea where they could be. I am not a messy person and these containers are either in use with food in them or are in the storage cupboard. There is no other place they could be.

AIBU to think they are stealing and let them go?

You don't trust them, so whether they are or not is irrelevant. I'd change if I was unhappy leaving people I didn't trust alone in my house.

As above. Bin them. Do not have people who don’t trust clean your house. I am wildly speculating, they saw some edibles they wanted/needed (swerved the shops!) and used your boxes. Only half joking.

As @Nanny0gg says, the trust has gone, so change them.

You will get lots of people telling you that you or your children are at fault, so prepare for a roasting.

And hide your gin.

If you're 100% sure about this, then I'd find someone new based on this alone. And helping themselves to chocolates isn't professional or respectful, I'd feel mistrustful too.

Ask them uf they have seen the contaoners as they had stool samples in for the doctor. Seriously though if the trust has gone its time to find someone else.

if you don't trust them, you have to get rid.

although tupperware containers and chocolate do just seem to vanish into thin air.
