Girls first period issues

I've trawled the internet but can't find any info on this, hopefully someone here will have had experience.
DD started her first at the end of November, lasted 7days, fine. But she hasn't really had a break for longer than a week since.
Its quite light bleeding, but it keeps happening every other week for a few days, this time its been on and off for 2.5 weeks.
Is this normal, I know its early days but I didn't want to ignore it and find out I shouldn't have.
Thanks

It can take up to 2 years for them to settle into a proper cycle. My eldest was 12 and it was horrendous. She got to day 65 of a very heavy/flooding every day when I went to the drs. They didnt really do anything and wanted to wait for it to settle down. It did after about 17 months.

Thank you so much, that's just what I needed to hear (though awful for them but she'll be happy knowing its all fine). Phew!

DD is almost up to the 2 year mark now and hers still haven’t settled. It varies so much

Catapillarsruletheworld · 26/01/2020 19:49

Mine were a bit like that when I first started. They did settle down eventually, but have never really been regular unless on the pill, but more I frequent rather than constant bleeding, which I can live with.

JaceLancs · 26/01/2020 19:53

DD had first few at 9
Then very intermittent until 11
Since 13/14 (now 28) has had a terrible time, tried every pill going, plus the injection etc.
I feel her pain as I was just same and had hysterectomy at 37, used to flood embarrassingly - moody beyond belief and pain worse than labour

Fumnudge · 26/01/2020 20:00

I'm really hoping she won't be as heavy as me, time will tell. At least there's a lot more choice out there now, I've still not got over the 'unexpected period while wearing a white skirt' incident while on student exchange Blush

My DD is too young for periods, although I was only a year older than her when I started. But, I have to say for myself, period pants are amazing....I've bought some for her already. No more worrying about getting menstrual blood on your clothes or bedsheets.

Holidayaddict · 26/01/2020 21:46

Oh I might have to look into period pants for DD (13) as she has had quite a few period accidents on bedclothes etc since starting last year. She's paranoid about possibly getting her period on a forthcoming sleepover so they could help. Also, is 13 too young for tampons? I'm wondering if they might be easier for when she goes on a school trip in the summer that involves lots of water sports.

Supertrooper98 · 26/01/2020 22:12

What exactly are period pants? I've seen them mentioned here a few times. Do you wear them with a sanitary towel as an extra protection?

underneaththeash · 26/01/2020 22:26

Oh they’re amazing. I use them now as I’m middle aged and tampax aren’t enough. I’ll find you a link.

underneaththeash · 26/01/2020 22:28

So I have these ones
www.modibodi.co.uk/
They are absolutely amazing. You actually just wash them as pants.

Fumnudge · 26/01/2020 23:38

I've bought her modibodi and another brand, would recommend modibodi, more expensive but hold more fluid.
You can apparently use a tampon at any age but she really didn't want to yet, v early days for her. I'm bought her some so she has the option when she feels like she's ready.
