To eat alone in a high end restaurant in London on Saturday night?

Just that really. Friend cancelled because of a family emergency, was really looking forward to it after separating from ex DH in November. It's a high end restaurant in London Mayfair, feel a bit silly all dressed up sitting alone on a Saturday night. Don't mind eating lunch alone, but don't know about eating alone in a busy restaurant on a Saturday night Blush it's next week btw

If you feel comfortable you should go for it! Treat yourself to a nice dinner and maybe a fancy cocktail or two.
If not, is there anyone else you could take?

AppleKatie · 25/01/2020 22:14

Do it. Go. Look enigmatic. Take a book.

Order steak and copious amounts of wine.

elephantoverthehill · 25/01/2020 22:14

Well what if you were away from home working. What else could you do?

Titsywoo · 25/01/2020 22:14

Normally I'd say go for it but will you feel a bit shit if you're already vunerable from your seperation? Can you find someone else to go? If you think you'd enjoy yourself anyway then go :) I eat out alone loads and love it but it's a choice.

arethereanyleftatall · 25/01/2020 22:15

If you go on tinder right now, you'll find someone to come with you in about ten minutes.

Thelnebriati · 25/01/2020 22:16

Normally I'd order steak but you should probably have the house specialty and a really nice wine.

MindYours · 25/01/2020 22:17

Do it OP, if it's a busy place everyone will be too busy doing their own social thing to even notice you're alone anyway. I eat out by myself all the time and so do others

whatisheupto · 25/01/2020 22:20

Do it. So fun. Take a book/ipad if you want. Or just people watch. In London it's easy. No one cares!!

PumpkinP · 25/01/2020 22:21

I wouldn’t

Natsel84 · 25/01/2020 22:21

Do it , life is to short , enjoy yourself!

BobbyBlueCat · 25/01/2020 22:22

Wouldn't (and doesn't) bother me at all.

People should be more comfortable in their own skin and doing things that they enjoy on their own.

NearlyGranny · 25/01/2020 22:23

Go - be that mysterious and glamorous woman dining alone with the enigmatic smile.*

  • Obviously you cannot be eating anything drippy that will go down your front. Not and maintain the mystique.
Butterymuffin · 25/01/2020 22:23

Do it! Just take a book. Or if it's next week, there's time to find someone to take your friend's place? I love eating out alone, it's so relaxing.

ilovesooty · 25/01/2020 22:24

Go and have fun..

PuppyMonkey · 25/01/2020 22:25

I mean, by all means if you want to go and the food is amazing and it’s not too far to get there and back, definitely go.

But yikes I’d prefer to stay in. Grin

SpecLosers · 25/01/2020 22:25

I wouldn't care and have done it. But to be honest it can be kind of a magnet for others to see a woman on their own. It would never bother a man would it?

But I have that glare now.

You don't have to have that glare either. LOL

But realistically it is not an easy gig.

Bunnyfuller · 25/01/2020 22:26

Very envious. High end restaurant. Dressing up. Quiet meal not feeling obliged to make small talk.

I’d ask to replace friend but I would spoil the fun of being alone!

GrumpyHoonMain · 25/01/2020 22:27

Michelin star restaurants often have single diners on Saturdays and Sundays in London (a lot of business travellers often fly in on the weekend) so they won’t bat an eyelash. Dress up and enjoy yourself

Eckhart · 25/01/2020 22:27

Do it. Rock it. Order all your favourite things. Be pleased about your inner secret (which is that you don't need anything from anybody to have a lovely evening out), which many others have yet to realise.

AgeLikeWine · 25/01/2020 22:28

YANBU at all. I eat out alone all the time. I take a book, iPad or both.

Enjoy your evening!

Sarahlou63 · 25/01/2020 22:29

Go! Tell yourself you're a restaurant critic and come back with a Jay Rayneresque review for us Grin

ssd · 25/01/2020 22:31

I've done loads by myself but this feels a bit sad. Why not try to find someone here on mn to join you? You both might make a friend.

KenDodd · 25/01/2020 22:33

Yes go it'll be great! You can order ten desserts and then a starter if you want with nobody to judge.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 25/01/2020 22:35

Do it.If you cba to take a book then just Mumsnet Smile

OhNoMyCheds · 25/01/2020 22:35

Waiters are usually push over puppies for lone-diners. Go for it.
