Stopped at my local shop for a few minutes after a 100 mile drive home. Came out of shop and saw this.
DH thinks it happened before I left for the drive home. I think surely after a 100 mile drive home on rural routes that included a diversion down a B road with only passing places that was being used by dozens of cars that this happened 2 minutes up the road.
Thoughts ?

Difficult to see. Looks like it's been scored by a key or something.

Iatetotheparty · 24/01/2020 21:03

What I mean is the line that has been keyed into the car is completely free of dirt free. Surely after a 100 mile journey it would have mud in it.

Looks fresh - has the shop got any cctv ?

AndyMurraysCat · 24/01/2020 21:05

Looks like something scratched you as you either tucked in or were passing something?

othervoicesotherrooms · 24/01/2020 21:05

My car passenger side is scratched the length of the car.
Country narrow roads are to blame. Drive just a bit too close to the side of the road and branches get the car every time.

NoMilk · 24/01/2020 21:07

Were you parked on the pavement at all, or in a normal space? Sad

othervoicesotherrooms · 24/01/2020 21:08

Is it deep ? Scored through the paint or is it in the surface only?

Iatetotheparty · 24/01/2020 21:09

This is key damage. Cannot imagine why anyone would want to do this. Car was parked sensibly both ends of the journey. Surely the mark would be covered in dirt if it happened 100 miles ago.

Drivers side, not passenger so I haven’t scrapped a hedge or anything. Parked sensibly both ends of the journey. I have parked and worked on this road since 2012 but yes it is an area with parking issues. DH thinks it’s because I park in a residential area. My work is on the same road.

I’m sorry this has happened to you it’s so annoying but I’d definitely agree with PP about the damage potentially coming from a branch on a rural route. Most of my journeys are on small country lanes and I’ve had scratches like this too. Hope it polished out for you.

Iatetotheparty · 24/01/2020 21:15

I haven’t posted all of the damage. Further along the line gets wavy. It’s definitely key damage.

This is really deep . I learned to drive in Cornwall so understand that cars can get hedge rash. This is drivers side. To have damaged the drivers side I would have had to cross the carriage way . Even on the single track / passing place only diversion tonight I never came close enough to the on coming cars for this to happen.

We have a dash cam with sensor movement thing but no reader for the tiny card. Shop will have cctv. Will look at accessing both tomorrow hopefully.

If it's definitely key damage and it's totally free of any dirt in any part, I'd suspect the local shop, but I suppose it could have been at the start of the journey.

I'm sorry this has happened Flowers
