Some people drive big cars because they are shit drivers?

Like many places, where I live there are a lot of big 4x4 cars used for urban or suburban driving and not for driving through rough terrain.

I know there is a status thing connected to these cars but AIBU to say sometimes people who are not confident drivers drive them to feel more confident and cause a lot of problems by doing so?

My car is a small family car but I've driven a lot of cars and I know it's quite nice to be up high above the other cars.

But so often I see people struggling to park them and parking them badly because they don't seem to know what they are doing (even though they presumably have sensors and cameras).

Surely if you are not very good at driving you shouldn't be in a huge car that's too big for you to handle. Using it to boost your confidence is selfish and dangerous.

It’s just more noticeable if you park a big car badly, you can park a fiat 500 really shittily and still be in the space....

As a cyclist i am much more wary of the bigger cars and that's not because of the size.

I had a big 4X4 for my business which made me and other road users a lot safer, bigger cars towing are definitely better. Now I’m not doing that business I’ve got a big estate, with two kids and two dogs we needed it. I loved the 4x4 but wouldn’t have one without needing it, the fuel costs were massive and the repair costs had me in tears at times.

So have a spot of sympathy for your person that’s addicted to a 4x4, if it’s made by a certain British firm you can bet their credit card bill is a right mess.

If my next door neighbour is anything to go by YANBU they are always over the line so technically on my drive.... I have a small car that fits easily (no parking cameras or sensors on our car, but I take care to park carefully using mirrors). I've seen bad drivers in all types of cars of course but big cars do seem to park selfishly a bit more often!

The worst drivers are those in small cars driving along at 50mph on a motorway. Don’t drive if you’re too scared to

I bought a 4x4
My family are all v tall and I have to carry around a very large musical instrument and a dog.
It’s not cunty to own 4x4
I’d love to drive a little car with great fuel economy but I’d have to get rid of my tall family and hobbies.
