To ask for CMPA advice?

Sorry posting for traffic!

DS (16 months) has mild CMPA. He’s been symptom free on pretty much everything but whole milk as a drink. About a week ago we tried to reintroduce cows milk. He developed eczema and a rash pretty much immediately but we gave it a few days to confirm it was that. He’s since had explosive yellow liquid poos. Do we need to go right back to the first step of the milk ladder, or should it clear back up if we revert to his normal diet, and no cows milk to drink?

I feel so terrible for him 😕 We’re not under a dietician as it’s never been a huge problem.

My son has the same and the dietician’s advice recently was not to go back to the bottom of the milk ladder, always go back to the level they were ok at so that it keeps their tolerance up

Absoluteunit · 24/01/2020 18:17

Yep as above we were told to go back down a "wrung" on the milk ladder

Onlyforthis2 · 24/01/2020 18:27

Gosh that sounds odd to get that high up the ladder and then there be a reaction. We can't even get last step 1 which makes me sad. But yes, back one step, to the last step he was symptom free on

It’s completely bizarre. He’s violently unwell on milk as a drink - literally like korma sauce pouring out of him, but he’s fine with any dairy products otherwise.

DD is exactly the same & she is 7. We never got to the top. Everything else is fine now, but not milk to drink

We put 'No raw milk' on school & holiday club forms.

She is not bothered one bit & hates the taste of Cows milk.
She loves Soya, Almond and Oat milk mainly.

I buy the Tesco own brand although she likes the Alpro kids one, its 70p more, so I only get that when its on offer.

I ask if she wants to try Cows milk at home (I make sure its morning so if she vomits after a few hours, it wont be night time) but she turns her nose up and says "save it for the baby cows, humans shouldnt drink it"Hmm

I drink milk all the time! So she has not got that from me!

We do get some funny looks when we ask for non dairy milk in a hot chocolate but yes to a flake on top with chocolate sprinkles.

BTW they say most children grow out of it by age 5, so I wouldnt rush OP.

Like I say DD is 7 and we are not bothered one bit by it.

Not much advice OP but had never heardof the milk ladder, though we did something similar (on advice) with DS.

He had a couple of goes at dairy before he was 7 and both times reacted. It wasn't until after that he could eat some dairy. He is now 14 and eats most stuff but has never progressed to full on milk as he just doesn't like the taste, and still has soya milk

My ds is almost 3 and outgrew his CMPA just after he turned 2. We were always told by dietician to go back to last tolerated step of the milk ladder and allow to be reaction free for 6 weeks before re attempting. If your son can tolerate as high as you've said then I'd just continue giving him soya or oat etc then in a few months try again.
