To go on holiday for a month with a 4 month old?

Hi all,

My husband is in a position to take a month's break from work when our LO will be 3.5 months old.

This is our first baby... currently six weeks old. Would we be crazy to think we can go away for a month with a baby this young?

And if not - where would you go?!

😊

I’ve done it! We went to India because DH has family there. It was great! 4 month olds are still so small that they’re easy on the plane and portable enough to take places with you.

AryaStarkWolf · 24/01/2020 15:59

I don't see why not, what kind of a holiday though?

Potatopia · 24/01/2020 15:59

Do it, you'll probably never get the time off again! Obviously get travel insurance. If you're breastfeeding you don't need to worry about baby's food. Baby will be too little to crawl/run away etc!
Go somewhere you'll get a break from washing, cooking and cleaning - whatever works with your budget.

It’d be easier at 4 months than when you start weaning/have a proper bedtime

agteacht · 24/01/2020 16:32

Well that sounds positive! As you say @Potatopia I don't think we will get the chance again - once im back at work there's no hope!

No idea where we would go... some sunshine ideally and beside the sea. Aim is just to relax somewhere new!

Need to see what options could be open to us in April...

One of my friends did this - she rented a house on a Greek island (I think) when her DS was about the same age and was away for a month. It sounded amazing and I was so jealous!

I absolutely wish I had. I had two incredibly easy, portable babies, who I just strapped to me and got on with my life. I wish I hadn't listened to all the people telling me babies were hard. I don't doubt some are, but some really aren't. Problem is you don't know which type you'll get!

arethereanyleftatall · 24/01/2020 16:41

I wouldn't do a beach holiday, simply because as your child gets older, that's the only holiday you'll be doing. So I'd leave that till then. I'd do some proper exploring, new cultures, new cities.

Howdidido · 24/01/2020 16:42

Yep we are too. Well a 5 month old and a 4 year old.
We settled on Mallorca as a laid back not too expensive place to live for a bit. Were also looking at Tenerife, south east Italy and near Seville. But Cuba would have been an option if we didnt have the 4 year old. 4 months olds are portable and if you're breastfeeding not a hassle on a plane at all.

CheshireDing · 24/01/2020 16:43

Sounds like a great idea, mine are old enough to need paid for seats on the plane now 🙄

In to your position I would choose somewhere warm but not boiling hot with warm water and chilled out vibe - so Florida keys or Perth, Australia would be my top 2 that meet that criteria x

Stayawayfromitsmouth · 24/01/2020 16:48

The only places I would avoid are ones that need extra immunizations and poor healthcare facilities.
Otherwise the world is your oyster really.
With a month I would look at longhaul destinations.
Under 1s are usually free on flights and hotels.

Paphos, the weather will be pleasant but not unbareable and I could happily spend a month there! If you do go there is a baby place that rents stuff so you don't have to cart it all with you and make sure you check out JUMBO in the paphos mall.

formerbabe · 24/01/2020 17:39

I think that's a perfect age to do it....they're not so tiny anymore yet they're also not crawling yet!
