To take my ring back to the jeweler?

My engagement ring is an antique diamond and sapphire ring which belonged to DH's gran. The stones are all tiny but it's a beautiful setting. The hallmark dates it to 1920.
A few weeks ago one of the tiny sapphires fell out, so I took it to the jeweller to have it replaced. Picked it up yesterday and paid £45. The ring has also been cleaned. The jeweller did tell me it was a fragile ring and not to wear it every day.
DH was very much of the opinion that it should be enjoyed rather than sit in a box and told me to carry on wearing it every day but remember to take it off for anything where it could get damaged.
This morning, another sapphire has fallen out. By an amazing stroke of luck I noticed straight away (whilst in the shower!) and saw the tiny sapphire on the shower tray, and managed to rescue it before it went down the drain.
Would it be reasonable to expect the jeweller to refix this stone free of charge? Because I suspect the cleaning process loosened it. Or is it a case that the stones were clearly loose anyway and this was always bound to happen again. I'm a bit upset it happened literally 14 hours after putting the ring back on...but I don't really think the jeweller is to blame and it's just the risk you take with antique jewelry.
As a ps. Does anyone know if the stone can be refixed without another trip to the jeweler? It's literally the size of a grain of sand so really very fiddly. I'm a bit reluctant to fork out £45 again so soon. (Maybe a bit less because I have the stone this time.)

I take my rings off to do anything - but they are resin with hair set in and I'm not sure how resilient they are so I'm v cautious! Never wash up or shower or anything in them

@CoolcoolcoolcoolcoolNoDoubt that's what I do, but the other poster said wearing rings to wash up dulls them. But unless you're washing something greasy and/or don't rinse it's pretty much the same hot and soapy water. I was just curious really

It's not the shower itself that's the problem with regards to the setting (although the chemicals in toiletries won't do your ring any favours - and behind the stones get gunked up). The problem is before you get in the shower, you get undressed. When you get out the shower, you wash your hair. You get out the shower and towel off. During all this, the tiny bits of metal (usually claws) that hold each stone in place will be getting caught and put under stress. Think of how easily a teaspoon bends, and that's made out of steel. Not only are precious metals much softer than steel, the claws themselves are tiny thin bits of metal - they bend so easily. Even brand new rings lose stones due to catching on clothes and towels, never mind fragile antique ones. This is why you should take rings off when washing your hands or going to bed. Fabric and towelling are not a good match for jewellery.

My husband is a goldsmith and often refuses to do single repairs on rings like yours for this reason - either the rest of the ring falls apart while he's working on it (then he's responsible for repairing it), or he manages to fix one part and then next week the rest will go and he's asked to fix it for free or a discount (and usually he's advised it's too fragile to wear, but it's worn anyway). You also wouldn't believe the number of people who come in with rings where the stone has just "fallen out", and on inspection one of the claws has completely snapped, having been caught on something.

In reality most people won't take off their rings every time they wash their hands, but I think it's because we think metal is naturally durable. Not when it comes to jewellery unfortunately.

Who takes their engagement and/or wedding ring off to have a shower or bath? I'm interested now!

I'm not married but engaged and I never take my ring off. It's not a traditional engagement ring though - no large central stone, smaller diamonds set across a band.

I'm 22 weeks' pregnant though so may have to take it off for a bit nearer the time baby is due - my fingers definitely swelled in both of my previous pregnancies!

I take my engagement ring off every time I’m washing up or having a bath/shower. When I’m washing my hands at work I leave it on but at home I have ring holders at each sink so I take it off then as well. And my ring is modern and platinum - still wouldn’t risk it!

Mines been on for over 11 years. My fingers have become plump, I can't even take it off!

I don't take mine off for showering, perhaps I should. I've a plain wedding band and my engagement ring is a small solitaire diamond in a fairly robust platinum setting. I thought it would be fine
