Pip nightmare

I have seizures so I claim pip. I came up for reassessment and my first appointment was in December. We were just walking into the assessment centre when I got a phone call cancelling it.
The next appointment had to be abandoned because I had a seizure half way through. When I have a seizure I lose my memory for a few hours so not point in carrying on.
Yesterday I had my appointment and had a seizure again so it had to be abandoned.

My mum on the advice of the assessor rang the DWP there and then and asked if this happens again (highly likely as I had fits in stressful situations) could she speak for me.

Turns out yes she can but this process which takes months to set up and my money stops on the 11th March no matter what. They suggested I make another appointment and hope for the best. They can’t do a home appointment in time for my money to continue

I feel sick. The first appointment was them cancelling and then the other 2 was stopped because of my disability. I don’t know what to do they say no matter what my money will stop if I am unable to compete the assessment process.

Flying. My ds turns 16 in the summer. I'm really excited as his asd and HSP will be cured overnight. It'll be amazing for him to no longer struggle physically, socially and emotionally WinkHmm

I'm just hoping the fact he's starting college with the same level 9f support on an ehcp as he has in school (and expectations for pip are higher 8n regards to what you can do) this will go 8n his favour - at least during transition period.

Join fight back for justice vip panel and get them to represent you.I think it costs 80 quid.well worth it.

Apparently because he drives and works he is fine. The fact that it takes huge amount of input from us ( and him) plus outside agencies to make this happen is beside the point to them. He told them he can't recognise faces. They ignored what happened when som idiot rear ended him and then behaved so threatengly that he said it was his fault and fortunately called me in a complete panic otherwise he'd have had a bill for several thousand. But apparently he isn't vulnerable because he is aware of stranger danger - he knew that when he was four!

I hope you get this resolved, OP. I am really stressed so I cannot imagine what hell the process must be if you have anxiety related conditions. They've seen you have fits - what more proof do they need!

Orangeblossom78 · 26/01/2020 14:07

They do use driving as proof people can do all sorts of tasks etc, don't they.

Thelnebriati · 26/01/2020 14:16

They should not be stopping your PIP if the assessments were not completed due to you having seizures.
Absolutely this.

  • Contact your MP.
-Google for your nearest Law Centre, they provide legal advice for people who cannot afford a solicitor.
  • Contact disability support charities; the one that supports your specific disability, and this one that supports claimants;
www.disabilityrightsuk.org

If you do lose PIP remember that between 15 - 70% of refusals are overturned on appeal.

When my son was psychotic I contacted them asking to do a risk assessment as a home visit would have been unsafe (( he wasn't allowing people in the house at that point )) then his nurse stepped in as she was so concerned. I've no idea what strings she pulled but he avoided his face to face entirely in the end.

I sometimes work with clients who are about to be discharged from forensic mental health units. We aim to get PIP in place, even though it's not in payment, before discharge as that prevents them having to go onto UC (some of these clients have been in hospital/prison for 20-30 years, so have no chance of managing an online claim successfully).

When you send off supporting evidence that includes a case history giving details of their violent offending and a care plan that includes a full risk assessment, no lone workers, triggers etc, they seem remarkably willing to make an award on the basis of the paperwork alone.

They can be flexible when they want to be, it would seem.

Orangeblossom78 · 26/01/2020 15:12

They love MH care plans they use them as evidence. Once they are off then it is different.

LakieLady · 26/01/2020 15:12

@itsgettingweird, I've used EHCPs for 2 clients switching from child DLA to PIP and I'm convinced it makes a difference.

It's so hard to get an EHCP that they're pretty compelling evidence imo.

Orangeblossom78 · 26/01/2020 15:25

Yes Pip is all about the paper evidence, it makes a lot of difference. It helps the assessors write their reports i guess.

Flyingarcher · 26/01/2020 18:48

The assessor seemed to make no reference to the evidence and paper reports we sent in. No reference to the statement, four specialist assessments. Nothing.
