Paracetamol and codeine?

I am having excruciating pain in my lower and upper jaw. The pain is indescribable and it’s completely foggying my brain!
I’ve seen the DR and dentist and they are pretty sure it’s sinus. I’ve been given antibiotics and taken the first this morning. The DR asked what painkiller I was using and I said paracetamol which was working fine at the time but it really isn’t touching the pain at all now!
I have some codeine my DH was prescribed so would I be really stupid to use some? Also can it be taken with paracetamol? if not should I wait the 6 hours? (I know it’s 4 hours but that’s 4 times in 24 hours so I’ve been having paracetamol every 6 hours to make sure it’s in the 24 hour max doseage)
I hope this makes sense as the pain is so bad I can’t think clearly right now.

I would look at the dosage and take the equivalent of the co-codamol you can get from a pharmacy
The co-codamol you can buy over the counter only contains 8mg of codeine. The prescription codeine tablets are 15mg or 30mg.

I'm on cocodamol for back pain (the string prescription kind) it made me feel really weird first few days.

You can buy it over the counter in the 8mg tablets. I'd say that's safer than taking your DH prescribed stuff

Codeine and paracetamol, or co-codamol, make me quite sleepy. I try to only take them when I can have a good rest and not drive. They affect some people more than others though. Why don't you get your DH to look up the nearest all night chemist so that he can drop in on his way home in the early hours and talk to a pharmacist? Then he can bring something home for you.

Codeine can make you feel a bit drunk if it’s a strong dose. I sometimes take 60mg for back problems and I prefer to take a dose that size at night.

Codeine can also cause constipation so drink plenty of water and eat sensibly

Yes, but that’s per tablet. You would usually take two tablets containing 8mg each, making 16mg of codeine.

I was advised to try Beconase for a chronic sinus infection/pain recently and it really worked a treat, it's a steroid nasal spray for hayfever which you can get over the counter without prescription. I had this plus antibiotics but I think the spray was the cure. Sorry I know it doesn't help you right now but maybe worth a try tomorrow.

You can get 8mg Codeine/500 mg paracetamol over the counter. The 30mg/500 dosage is prescription only but is fabulous as a pain killer!

Had this at Christmas, it was hideous. Was desperate by the time the shops reopened. Had had everything in the house (or so I thought).
Realised afterwards I have Calpol and kids ibuprofen tonic form too.

Pharmacist said it was fine to take paracetamol the ibuprofen 2 hrs later. So given daily dosages you could alternate every 2 hours or so.

If the codeine isn't in the house I'd get advice before taking it unless very low dose.

Give steaming a go if you haven't already. OK it only helps a little bit and the effects are short lived but it is kind of nice wallowing in that little pink world (or whatever colour of towel you choose) and escaping the worst of the pain for ten minutes at a time is a nice thing. Add a few drops of Olbas oil for Proper Poorly points, even if it has been scientifically proven to do fuck all.
