To ask if your parents are well off, what did they do for work?

Inspired by the other thread about expecting to inherit from DPs will.

Many posters seem to have parents with wealth and it got me thinking about my own. One was a mechanic and is now unemployed due to health issues and the other is a cleaner. Neither of them have any savings or assets. So I won't be getting much, if anything when they pass.

AIBU to ask about yours?

My dad ran his own cleaning company for best part of 30 years. Sold it and retired at 53. Had contracts up and down the country so must have sold it for a fair amount but no idea on the actual figures.
My mum worked part time but only when we were older because she got bored when we were at school and dad was working long hours.

My parents are fairly well off now they're retired. Own their own home, mum has a good pension and they are very comfortable.

When I was growing up it was very hard. My dad often didn't take a wage from his factory (him and a colleague took it over when the men were made redundant) so things were tight.

They don't have thousands in the bank I don't think.

My dad died when I was quite young, so my mum was left very comfortable with the mortgage paid off, a lump sum, and a monthly pension - obviously she would rather have had my dad, who worked as an engineer. My mum’s retired now, but she was a receptionist. She’s remarried to a man who is also retired, but earned a high salary when he worked. They own a number of properties they rent out, as well as the home they live in, and spend about 50% of their time on lovely cruises - fair play to them!

Doctors (consultants)

Mine meet that definition. Dad worked in advertising and mom was a secretary. So professionals, but not the kind that make tons. Life was very frugal growing up. They saved and saved and also inherited from my dad’s dad. Grandfathers estate was worth millions, but he gave most of it to charity and left each child with about 500k. Grandfather worked at a grocery store, but invested his savings in real estate.

Civil engineer and NHS director. They also bought property at the right time and made hundreds of thousands on that.
