I'm being a little petrified of new job?

I've not worked in over 8 years. Due to visa issues and then having ds.

I've been doing some writing for the local newspaper for a few months and really enjoying it.

The current owner/editor wants to hand over the paper to me in 2 or 3 years.

I'm tremendously excited but also pretty nervous. It's a huge undertaking. She has a few people who contribute but the paper is mostly written by her. She does everything, layout, advertising, booking.

It's got a steady circulation of 500-700 but I would want to take it online too. There are many people who have houses here but only come in the summer so there's a huge market for it.

I'm most nervous about the accounting side. I'm dyscalculic so find numbers etc VERY difficult. She wants to teach me Quickbooks and I'm terrified I'm going to just not get it. There are no local courses I can do as I'm very remote and I don't think I'll do well on an online course.

Has anyone learned how to do Quickbooks/accounting when they have similar learning difficulties?

Also, has anyone ever changed career paths hugely and just taken a leap of faith and had it work out? Or not.

I'm scared I'll fail but then I'm also proud to think I could do something that makes a difference in my community and that ds can be proud of. I used to have a strong career and be very confident, how do I get that back?

Well you've got 2-3 years to think about it.

It's a bit of a leap to do some writing to running the business though.

Is it a viable business? Where does the income come from - advertising?

What if the current owner wants to put someone else in place in the next 2-3 years.

All sounds too vague for my liking.

@inwood she's clearing around £25,000 a year now. So it wouldn't be a huge income for me, it would more be for the love of it!

If she put someone else in place then I'd be disappointed but not have lost anything really.

Over the next few years she's going to work with me to show me how to do everything, she took it on from never having done anything similar appreciates it's a steep learning curve.

Honestly, I would say that you should be looking to outsource the bookkeeping if you have dyscalculia. You would need to be able to understand the accounts and keep on top of the financial state of the business, but I don't think you should be the only or main pair of eyes keeping track of the numbers.
