To ask if this is bollocks or not re chocolate eating

wineoclockthanks · 22/01/2020 19:49

A friend has decided to start healthy eating (and lose weight) but still has a stash of Christmas chocolate.

She has read somewhere that if you eat it all in one sitting you are less likely to put on weight than if you eat it over a few days.

Surely this can't be right can it? Anyone know?

I'm in if anyone wants to do a trial of some sort. I've eaten the Christmas chocolate though so will have to no to the shops first.

Strongmummy · 22/01/2020 19:50

Who knows. Why doesn’t she do the right thing and give it to you

AriadnesFilament · 22/01/2020 19:50

It’s utter bollocks

Sparklycrystals · 22/01/2020 19:50

I’m sure this can’t be right, it’s still the same number of calories going in

beela · 22/01/2020 19:52

Hmmm. I think it would save your willpower to use elsewhere if you just ate it all in one go. So it would help.

littlepaddypaws · 22/01/2020 19:53

she's kidding herself big time. eat it all in one go,

beela · 22/01/2020 19:53

Not sure my reasoning is very scientific though Grin

Duckyneedsaclean · 22/01/2020 19:53

More or less true

ElderAve · 22/01/2020 19:54

I suppose it would work if it creates a situation where you consume fewer other calories.

i.e if you have 7 bars of choc you plan to eat in a week and you eat them all on day one, you might not fancy much for dinner, where as if you eat one a day you'll probably eat all your other meals as normal.

Otherwise complete nonsense.

Neverender · 22/01/2020 19:54

I think it's less bad for your teeth if you eat it all in one go...maybe she's confused?!

Tartyflette · 22/01/2020 19:57

It depends, if you ate it all in one sitting and there was so much you vomited it up again, then she could be right.
(Not in any way a comment aimed at anyone suffering from an eating disorder. Just a supposition that if you ate too much of it, it might make some people sick.)
If I eat too much chocolate it can have the opposite effect, goes straight through me, which is unpleasant so I try not to.

gingerchaos · 22/01/2020 19:57

In terms of your teeth it's better to eat it all in one go and I think I read that it's better to do the same so you aren't having multiple blood sugar spikes during the day but not sure if that's right or even safe, particularly for diabetics

Dozer · 22/01/2020 19:59

I’ve done this, many times, binge eating issues Blush SadFrom one big binge usually not much weight gain. Different story if frequent.

wineoclockthanks · 22/01/2020 20:11

How weird, maybe she does have a point - and yes, I am such a good friend that I did help her with her dilemma by removing a small chocolate Santa and a packet of smarties from the equation Grin

Utter, utter, utter bollocks. Weight loss is all thermodynamics. Use less than you consume. Regardless of when consumed.

confusedandemployed · 22/01/2020 20:13

Use more 😂

confusedandemployed · 22/01/2020 20:14

That little slip on my part explains a lot...about 2 stone...

TigerOnATrain · 22/01/2020 20:20

@wineoclockthanks Why doesn't this 'friend' give all the chocolate away to the local food bank?

And why the eff has she got so much left almost a month after Christmas?

YesIReallyDoLikeRootBeer · 22/01/2020 20:23

I don't know. It might work. My son lost a lot of weight and he would eat really good for 6 days and then have one cheat day, Repeat. That one cheat day a week never seemed hurt him.

Aderyn19 · 22/01/2020 20:24

It's bollocks because if you eat your whole stash in one go, you will buy more later in the week. If you spread it out, you will just eat what you have.

KittenVsBox · 22/01/2020 20:25

Its disastrous.
I scoff it all, and then 3 days later decide I could walk to Spar for a small sugar boost, discover something huge on offer, and scoff all that too.......

TotHappy · 22/01/2020 20:27

Another bollocks chocolate question for those who are chocolate knowledgeable: my mum insists that if you eat cocoa and milk at the same time the cocoa prevents the calcium being absorbed, ergo there is no nutritional value to a cup of cocoa.

Is THIS bollocks?

andyjusthangingaround · 22/01/2020 20:29

Also, happy to be part of the experiment! Especially if any Lindt or Raffaello is involved! Or Bounty! Or just the Celebration tub....

Obviously she could give it to you, Shelter, homeless people, work colleagues... Just remember, I am here! Grin

bridgetreilly · 22/01/2020 20:29

Yes, it's more or less true. Your body won't digest it well if you eat it all at once. And you will bounce back much more quickly if you then don't eat any for a longer period of time.

bridgetreilly · 22/01/2020 20:29

@TotHappy yes, that's bollocks.
