her friend has an older sister who plays hockey ofcourse younger sis wants to play.
my d/d is going for a sleep over sat night and wants to go to hockey with them next morning. I know my child who will try very hard but will be in the wrong place at the wrong time and come home battered or teeth lost. This is her second ever sleep over and my d/h and i are very grateful to have a child free night. Now i am worried sick about the bloody hockey help!!!! We normally go to mass on sunday morning and now i will be worst mummy in the world for not letting her play hockey. What can i suggest not until you have a bite guard and shin guards and all the kit Help some suggestions please

if she's not going to be playing with shin guards or mouth guards then tbf i'd say no. otherwise i'd be ok with it. i've already got my 14 month old's name down for rugby which he will start when he turns 5 lol.

It won't be the full on grown up hockey ... honestly ...
I would let her go ... if it is a proper club and all that they will have age appropriate rules/games/equipment for them.
My friend's 7 year old plays hockey and she still has her teeth ...

You see being catholic from N.Ireland we had to play camogie which is like hurling only for girls!!! I went once and saw two girls have their front teeth knocked out and never went back funnily enough. I'm over reacting plus never had chance to play hockey not really into that type of thing. My d/h played hockey and enjoyed it stick in shed a little large for d/d. Still undecided not going to buy all the kit for her not to like it iyswim

"i've already got my 14 month old's name down for rugby which he will start when he turns 5 lol."

haha - DS2 has started Rugby in the last few weeks along with DS1 (it was supposed to be just DS1 but DS2 was insistent that he wanted to go as well). Lovely coach said that he's welcome to come along to practices but won't be allowed to be picked for the team until he turns 5...........so we only have to wait another year an a bit .

Oh and it means that DS1 and 2 won't be attending church with me during Rugby season either - but I'd rather they only attend "out of season" than forcing them to go all year round and making them miss their Rugby practices.

but they love children's liturgy and bringing being picked to bring gifts up It's just not a sport i am familiar with mass i wouldn't force them to go when older but at this age well it is example. no comparison playing hockey is rather more exciting!! funny the way things have worked out. maybe she might get bored with it in a few weeks

Better sport than church. Even if sport does fit all the criteria for being a religion.

do you think done me no harm apart from the guilt and putting others first etc.... but hay it what makes me the hopefully nice person i am ( there should be a puking icon)

yes I should imagine there is - I know that DS's will be going to the once a month afterschool service, DS1 attends the CoE school, and DS2 will still be attending the church toddler group (which has a little "service" before juice and playtime) and will attend every week again "out" of seaons (from April-September I think...

It's a great sport to play..

Tis how I met my DH - male hockey players have fab thighs! ...

Glad she is enjoying it, glad that you let her play.

I wasn't allowed to play hockey on Sundays until I was 15 as we went to church and was a family day, but I did play every Saturday and loved it.. in fact played from age 13 right up to around 35ish...

Am looking forward to my dd (3.8) to be old enough to join a club...

mylastrolo · 05/09/2007 22:17

you are right heifer she is loving it i am proud of her. Must check the thighs of the males out lol
