To not let neighbours put skip on my grass?

Neighbours who are lovely, are having their roof replaced and want to put a skip on our grass for 2 weeks!

I’ve said yes to them putting the scaffolding on our property as long as any damage is rectified but I feel a skip in my front garden for 2 weeks is a little bit much!

Am I being a bad neighbour?

I would, if they are nice. It's a neighbourly thing to do.

Why is it the neighbourly thing to do to let them do something that will potentially damage your property?

Apolloanddaphne · 26/01/2020 11:05

I think what you have offered is very reasonable. The skip goes on their drive, the neighbours park on your drive and the builders park on the road.

BronteSisters · 26/01/2020 11:29

Glad to hear it's been resolved OP. Now you just have to keep an eye out for when they drop it off to make sure it's not where the builders prefer it to be.

As others have said, the potential costs to you could be huge. Firstly damaged grass and soil that may or may not recover (mine never did so it had to be dug up, takes out and reseeded but then I ended up with a different looking patch of grass that also eventually sank too.) and then there's potential damage to your walls, fence or driveway with the truck picking up the full and very heavy skip, and lastly the possibility of debris thrown haphazardly at the skip and being left in your lawn to damage your lawnmower one day.

Good neighbours do favours but bad neighbours expect favours that will greatly inconvenience or cost the ones helping them out. Your solution is ideal.

Oh I’ll be keeping a close eye!! Thankfully I work from home 4 days a week right now and DH is home the other one. Pretty sure they won’t sneak a skip passed me (or the dogs)!

The skip is being delivered! Next door 😊

Glad we said no, it’s MASSIVE!

Ooh, skip has gone away again. Think it was too big for the driveway.

Wonder if they’ll come asking again...

Now you've seen the size of it, even more reason to say no if they ask again, OP! Just say it's too big for you to accommodate on your garden, it'll ruin it.

CrunchySomething · 28/01/2020 10:24

They need to get a permit and put it on the road.

Scaffolding is blocking our satellite signal Angry

I have a feeling this isn't going to go well OP. And if they do park on your drive be specific that it's just for the duration of the works, and I hope that's not extended!

Bring it to their attention about the satellite

Puzzledandpissedoff · 28/01/2020 12:08

I'm not sure how much use that would be, Coke, given that too many skip companies seem to leave them where they are until they need them for someone else ... and that can take a long time

Anyway, let's just hope they don't manage to sneak it onto the drive (and that the satellite/scaffolding issue gets resolved)

Sexnotgender · 28/01/2020 12:30

I’ve spoken to neighbour about the satellite. It’s up to them to sort it out with the scaffolders.

You are being very generous allowing your neighbours to use your driveway to park on.
