Fitting screaming dog

Seeleyboo · 21/01/2020 19:48

Putting here for traffic so apologies if this is wrong.

My elderly chihuahua has had two seizures that I know of. I witnessed one today.

She went stiff and shaky and made this awful sound of screaming. A noise she's never made. Was that pain or fear, I don't know.

She lost control of her faculties after but she doesn't have much control these days anyway.

Has anyone else experienced this and if so how did you deal with it.

I accept this may the end of the road for her as she has multiple health issues and I'm not prepared to put her through extensive tests.

I must state that she seems very happy and responsive even when dealing with her problems.

Many thanks.

Flowers sorry @Seeleyboo Sad

Honeyroar · 22/01/2020 10:36

I’m really sorry. Sending you cyber hugs. It’s the toughest but the kindest thing you can do. I lost two of mine in the last two years and it’s so heartbreaking. ( take a tiny bit of her fur. I had the hair of my two put into a little key ring that comes with us on days out and walks, and also on a paperweight)

picklerickkk · 22/01/2020 11:05

OP I hope they’re well today - have they been given any flea, worming or injections prior to this?

Dizzygirl00 · 22/01/2020 11:05

So very sorry Flowers

MrsExpo · 22/01/2020 11:30

Take her to the vets and do the decent thing.

MulticolourMophead · 22/01/2020 11:38

MulticolourMophead · 22/01/2020 11:38

And 💐, OP, so sorry x

Schuyler · 22/01/2020 11:42

You are doing the kindest thing for her, even though it’s excruciatingly painful for you. You are a loving dog owner, she’s been lucky to have you. Flowers please keep this in mind because it’s true. Take care.

MistyCloud · 22/01/2020 11:44

My thought are with you. enjoy the afternoon you have now with her. Cuddles. Playing. Anything that make you both happy and content.

My parents had to have my childhood dog PTS and it was heartbreaking but defintely the right thing to do. She too had lost some of her faculties and it was unfair on all concerned. We took her to the park and let her have a run around, some treats she wouldnt usually have and just spent time with her before the time came.

Electrocute1980 · 22/01/2020 14:53

I'm so sorry OP. We had to have our beautiful boy put to sleep 2 weeks ago, it was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do but it was 100% the kindest thing for him. There are no words to take the pain away but know that you are doing the right thing for your precious pup. Will be thinking of you Thanksxx

LoveNote · 22/01/2020 14:57

i'm so sorry op!

LakieLady · 22/01/2020 15:34

@Seeleyboo, so sorry to hear this. As a friend said to me when I lost my first dog, it's the last kind thing you can do for them.

Flowers and Gin for later.

These bloody animals steal our hearts and then break them, don't they? My old girl is getting on for 15 and I don't think she'll be with us much longer.

LochJessMonster · 22/01/2020 15:40

Sorry to hear that OP Flowers

Just in response to other comments, often vets don't ask to see dogs after a fit or seizure as there is very little they can do after the event and not many helpful tests they can run.
When my dog first had his fits, they said just keep a record and when he has had more than 3, then they will look at epilepsy and causes etc.

Sadiee88 · 22/01/2020 15:48

@Seeleyboo so sorry, she will be out of pain though xx

Shinesweetfreedom · 22/01/2020 15:49

Seeleyboo
Thinking of you,and you know you have done the right thing with your baby x

Hepsibar · 22/01/2020 16:06

I would suggest she may have come to nearly EOL and time to be brave now or in the near future ... it is very tempting to spend £ on medication keeping them going but really before it gets to that is kinder, in my opinion ... but I know it's so hard.

CarolinaPink · 22/01/2020 16:38

(((OP))) Thanks

Rowgtfc72 · 22/01/2020 16:38

@Seeleyboo,Flowers thinking of you.

Shockers · 22/01/2020 16:39

I hope you’re ok@Seeleyboo; you’ll be there with her now, and it will be so hard, but she knows you’re there, and she knows you love her.

PenguinPickup · 22/01/2020 16:48

I'm very sorry for your loss xx

The Last Battle

If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this — the last battle — can't be won.
You will be sad I understand,
But don't let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.

We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn't want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.
Take me to where to my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me till the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don't grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We've been so close — we two — these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.
