Business Casual interview

Can anyone with experience of this please help. I have an interview in two weeks (UK office of a Californian tech company). The invitation email from HR (in the US) says they are a laid-back team so business casual is fine.

I wanted to wear a suit and tie (I'm a man) as that feels right for an interview. But would I be marked down for being up-tight? I'm concerned that the people I meet will think I'm too casual if I don't wear a suit and tie.

Thanks

I'd go with a suit but not the tie. It seems pretty standard for men to not wear ties in a business environment these days and still be considered smart.

Suit with a casual shirt and no tie seems right.

Yes, suit but no tie would be fine. Or a jacket and chinos with a proper shirt. I think that since they've specified they want a more casual approach, you should show that you are able to fit in with that.

Yep, suit no tie. Just make sure that your suit and shirt can carry that look! Think about your socks too. Never go comedy, with ties or socks but a bit of personality is fine.

Absolutely, jacket and chinos. But not if bought for the purpose.

Suit and no tie screams "I don't really know how to do business casual but see look at me I'm trying to get it right"

Is it a role where you will be customer facing, so that they care about your image or just about fitting in with the culture of the office?

It isn't customer facing, so I assume it's just about the culture.

Thanks for the replies, looks like the majority choice is suit but no tie.
