AIBU to ask for your tips on keeping my mood up?

Not really AIBU but there’s not a lot going on on the auto immune board!
I’ve been diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis and about to embark on a long list of scans, injections and drugs.
I’m actually pretty positive about those. I figure at least they should help with the pain.
The thing that is bothering me is the scalp psoriasis. It’s so bad. It’s itchy, sore and continuously flaking. Add to that, my hair is falling out with it and I’ve now got a small bald patch on my hair line.
It’s really getting to me. I feel ugly and and I’ve never had a huge amount of self confidence anyway.
I need tips on bringing my mood up before it spirals.
Plus any tips on hiding or disguising bald patches would be lovely! 🙂

Maybe speak to a hairstylist about a new style that might mask the issue with your hair line if it’s getting to you.

I suffer from depression and low self esteem. Meditation and affirmations have really helped with my mood. X

Well, since it's FREEZING at the moment, I would definitely be investing in some brilliant hats to wear outside. Go and try all kinds of styles on until you find what suits you. If you want, you could also go to a make up counter and get them to help you with a new look that makes you feel fabulous. Also treat yourself to a new scarf or jewellery or something.

Both excellent ideas! Maybe a bit of pampering and me time is needed (always at a premium with 2 small children!).
I’ll have to put some money aside when I get paid. January is not a good month for money!x

Google mood enhancing foods, I know eating turkey is good. Also trying to get some fresh air each day and arranging to see friends can help.

Yes try and get outside every day even if its just for a 20 minute walk.
I've lost quite a bit of hair due to medication for RA and I've swapped my parting around which has masked the receding patches at the front.
Have a play around and see if a slightly different style will work for you.

for your scalp try Lush they do a balm I think its called rescue balm and a shampoo in a bar called soak and float - both these really helped my scalp when all else failed.I would leave the balm on over night and wash off in the morning.

Re the hair loss, having suffered from it myself I know how badly it can affect your self esteem and mood. No suggestions on keeping mood up at the moment, but I can recommend Toppik (other products are available!) hair fibres for helping to disguise thinning areas on your scalp.

Also know that you're not alone - SO many women suffer from thinning hair and since suffering from it myself, I really notice it in others. It's so common for so many reasons.

What are you using for the scalp psoriasis?

TheFuckingDogs · 20/01/2020 14:30

Strict vitamin regime with high quality vitamins. High strength Vit D, B12 and evening primrose could all help plus loads of water on a daily basis

I have Ra so I understand how you feel. Please be gentle with yourself, and don't give yourself a hard time on bad days. I use Pintrest for anxiety to get ideas to enhance my mood. Despite the Ra, I do enjoy walking my dog and I love being outside in the woods etc. Thanks
