In the family WhatsApp group? My mum is going to Thailand in a few days with her friends and she has not been well recently either. One of my siblings just called me to tell me to delete it before she sees because she'll go mad? I'm really upset as I hate that they are disappointed with me.

I get it probably would worry her but I'm worried about something going wrong.

Flame me!

Yeah I think you should delete it too.

TwiddleMuff · 20/01/2020 08:30

She has more to fear from catching a tuk tuk than that virus. I think you're being OTT - and it's The Sun!!

iano · 20/01/2020 08:30

Yeah delete it

QuillBill · 20/01/2020 08:33

Could be the 'first victim of mystery Chinese virus'.

You couldn't make it up. Well you could!

VikingVolva · 20/01/2020 08:36

What good will reading that article do?

Therebare many diseases one might contract overseas. The possible presence of new, emerging one doesn't really change the risk.

Don't spoil the holiday or the run up to it ny scaremongering. Do however be alert to symptoms in returning travellers, and always mention to GP where you have travelled. Flu like symptoms could mean malaria. Even though most of Thailnd is low risk, she's probably more likely to come back with that than a coronavirus

skiptheskip · 20/01/2020 08:38

Yes I'd delete it.

PurpleDaisies · 20/01/2020 08:39

Why on earth did you think that was a good thing to share?

Is this a reverse?

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 20/01/2020 08:46

The fucking Sun? YABU for that alone, extra YABU for sharing it with your mother (and I speak as a committed prepper Grin)

Curiosity101 · 20/01/2020 08:55

@MoonBabee YABU - My parents do this all the time and I hate it. They're so negative, always looking for reasons not to do things and risks from doing things. This doesn't change my outlook much, just makes me want to not talk to them.

I appreciate you're only saying it because you care but she's a grown adult and has made it this far. Get excited about her trip andask her what she's her plans are :D Don't spend your time looking for reasons why she should fear it!

MoonBabee · 20/01/2020 09:02

I did delete it straight away when he said. I know you are all correct. I think it's more the way he called me up and was quite abrupt and just made me feel stupid. I really struggle with knowing I've upset or disappointed someone, especially family. I get that's my issue to deal with.

I definitely want her to have a good time. Just scared myself as she has been in hospital recently seriously ill but I guess the doctors are happy for her to go. Blatantly my anxiety manifesting itself!

TheGirlWithAPrince · 20/01/2020 09:03

you sound like my auntie XD Hahaha she is constantly sending us links that will be like oh your going to blah blah then send us a link about people dying there etc so we feel uneasy

PurpleDaisies · 20/01/2020 09:04

What did you actually expect your mum to do with that information? Cancel the holiday?

MoonBabee · 20/01/2020 09:29

No of course not! Just for her to be aware. She nearly died as she doesn't like seeking help so just wanted her to be aware of not feeling well

MissPoldark · 21/01/2020 13:24

I think it’s useful to make someone aware of it, they can be more vigilant then.

There are many diseases one might contract overseas. The possible presence of new, emerging one doesn't really change the risk.

How so? It appears to be spreading between people and causing very serious illness. Yes there are many other diseases which are much less common and easier to avoid.
