To ask you to smell your DP's breath?!

DP or whoever else you could possibly ask (since they'll think you are batshit!) and tell me what it smells like?!

I posted about my DH's breath months ago because I think it has a really distinct, noticeable odour (not bad as such, and not typical "bad breath", just a very specific smell) and nobody recognised it. In fact, google tells me I'm one of the only people in the world connecting a breath with this particular smell - when my OP googled it he found my thread!

So please... could you describe your DH's or another's? I'm actually a bit worried! He's been checked for diabetes and has no other known health problems. I'm breastfeeding so think my sense of smell is heightened but it's really noticeable to me when he's talking (but as I say it's not a "bad breath" smell)

My ex had horrific breath, despite brushing and gargling regularly.
Turned out he was suffering from diverticulitis.
Smelt vile.

My husband recently upped his water loads, like to 3 litres a day and I swear he has baby breath, its so clean....she didn't have bad breath but I could definitely tell when he'd not had enough fluid through the day

My partner has awful smelling breath. It affects intimacy. It took me 6 months to build up the courage to tell him. It still smells awful and I’m at my wits end as to whether to continue the relationship.

Sinus problems can cause bad breath also dodgy tonsils

Mum noticed dad’s breath smelt odd and metallic. Several months later he was diagnosed with cancer which sadly he didn’t recover from.

My DP has often said my breath smells like Ribena and a few times has sworn he could taste it on me too. I dont like diluting juice though so definitely not because of drinking it! 🤷🏻‍♀️

My DH has distinctive breath but like you say, it’s not bad. To me it’s quite sweet, but not Ribena sweet as mentioned above. Almost metallic.

My ex’s breath used to smell like mothballs. Got so bad it used to make me heave. He’s since been diagnosed as diabetic (and is an ex!!)

@adagio ! Mine doe stoo, I keep thinking there’s something wrong with her, cos I’d expect her to have bad breath with a cold, but not the fishiness! I’m slightly reassured that it isn’t just her

There is a very definite ‘fasting breath’ when people have been fasted of water as well as food, that’s quite bad though.

Of course the people he worked past smoking is the reason he smells of it, I am going to sit down and have a conversation with him about lying I get why he is though

Normally he has nice breath unless he has been drinking beer, in the morning, that is not a nice smell

It's an orange peel smell. Not ketosis, he's been checked for diabetes.

What else does orange peel smell like so I can google it more effectively?! I suppose it's acidic, not really sour but maybe

@MashedSpud I'm so sorry to hear that.

For those with bad breath- check out if its tonsiliths(Google for more info) . They're relatively easily removed and the smell is vile- like infection, although it's not.

Just smelt ds (he's unconscious in his cot so wouldn't notice) it smells sweet and sleepy.
Dhs smells stale and metalic, he's got morning breath though.

My OHs smells of orange pith weirdly.

@Ironytheoppositeofwrinkly finally someone who recognised the orange! You are the first person I've found with a fellow orange smelling breathed DH

I know smelling oranges randomly is a sign of a madness but I only ever smell it on him, nobody else!

I didn't understand why our bedroom would sometimes smell strongly of stale cake or stale biscuits in the morning. Basically, my husband snores. When he sleeps with his mouth open, his mouth dries out and bacteria grow which causes the smell.

It's the sweet but stale smell you get the minute you take the lid off a cake tin/biscuit tin.
