To think I won't kill someone if I drive like this without lessons?

I passed my test. When I get my car in a few weeks, the first major trip I want to take is from Bedfordshire to Essex. AIBU to think I won't kill someone if I drive on the motorway without any lessons? Blush

My instructor said I should really think carefully before attempting a motorway on my own, and has strongly advised some motorway lessons.

I thought the only tricky thing would be merging on from a slip road... Otherwise should be fine, just follow the SatNav and road signs, and stay in the first lane at 60/65mph.

Maybe I am bonkers... I've spoke to a few friends and they said they just drove on motorways without any lessons for them. But they all passed years ago so maybe things were different

I used to live in London and like driving in central London. Hate driving on m25 and I have been driving for over 30 years. It’s different to other motorways for some reason.

duel carriageways I’m fine with

They sound very dangerous to me, though. Grin

Sometimes motorways seem to be duel carriageways speed wise.
I'm quite happy to slow down and give space to hesitant drivers. It's the overconfident nutters that tend to be the problem.

Under confident and overconfident is the issue. Too hesitant or weaving in and out of gaps can both result in frustrated drivers behind you or an accident.

I drove down the A34 (so not even a motorway) and passed 4 different accidents. The two worst ones we’re going the other way and very close to each other. I can only assume the second accident was caused by the first and people driving too close together or not reacting correctly. Luckily, from what I could see, everyone seemed unhurt but looking at their cars, it could have been worse.

You've passed your test but they want you to do more lessons for a motorway? I've never heard of that actually.
I went on motorway way in evenings at about 9 a couple times in summer so it was bright but quieter to get used to it before I did peak traffic.
