Emotional blackmail

My partner doesn't see his kids and hasn't done for 8+ years. They are both adults now.

Only contact he has is by email. They refuse phone calls etc.

Every time they email they ask for money. If he doesn't give it they emotionally blackmail him with a sob story. They stories get worse and worse if he doesn't pay up.

It's heartbreaking to see the affect it is having in his mental health. He gives in as he is frightened that they will commit suicide if he doesn't.

Btw he already helps them out monthly and was and was always very generous to his ex with maintenance payments etc.

What would you do if you were me? Oh and they don't know about me as that would be another reason for them to abuse him.

(It's not £50 they ask for but hundreds and sometimes thousands)

If I were you I would try and get him to go to a therapist. He needs to figure this out for himself no matter how glaringly obvious it seems to you or MN.

Why hasnt he seen them for 8 yrs?

lamalama · 19/01/2020 10:37

I'll try to encourage him to see someone.

They haven't seen him since he split from their mother. The mother also has been blackmailing him when they split it and now the kids have started.

All very sad.

It sounds very sad but the only person who can put a stop to this is your DH.

If it’s by email can he definitely say the emails are from his children? How is the mo eh being paid?

DollyPomPoms · 19/01/2020 16:26

Money not mo eh!

BMW6 · 19/01/2020 17:22

Tell him to get a new email account..........

lamalama · 19/01/2020 17:24

@redexpat you're right. If I step in it would make matters worse.

@DollyPomPoms that's exactly what I've said. I believe the ex is behind some of them.

@BMW6 good idea. It's going too far. That would be the easiest way to stop them.
