Renting and plumbing issue

Posting here for traffic! DS at uni, they have a blocked downstairs toilet. Not emptying. It seems to be filling slowly which would seem to suggest a drain issue???

When renting does the landlord usually pay for such issues?

Any plumbers out there to advise? Any recommendations for a plumber in Nottingham?

Gah!

Depends if it's blocked because of something they put down there or an issue further down the line. Has he tried plunging it?

Landlord is responsible for plumbing and if it's the only toilet in the property then its classed as an emergency repair so he should call the landlord today. If it turns out to be down to a problem the tenants have caused (e.g., flushing wipes) then they will probably be billed for the repair although some letting agencies/landlords just give a warning the first time and then bill for subsequent times.

They have another toilet. The filling is worrying as that would seem to be coming up from the drains!

They need to contact the LL asap. The LL is repsonsible for fixing stuff like this.

Thanks all who replied. The LL has a maintenance man who was very impressed with DS's efforts to avert a flood and who will be clearing the blockage soon.
