Query £5

I was quoted £55 for something but turns out on their website it says £50. Before paying, I double checked and confirmed that I only should pay £50. DH thought I should have just paid £55 and not "fussed" over it. We are not struggling for money.
The invoicer also commented something about "£5 doesn't exactly break the bank". A friend also later commented "oh god! Can't believe you asked!"
So AIBU? I wouldn't have thought about £5 between friends but I don't owe this person anything? I'm paying for something, why would I pay more for no reason?? I would just like to see what Mumsnet says. Was I being stingy?

Are they actually friends?

Personally I would ask but 5 is a quarter of my winter weekly gas consumption

zigzagbetty · 18/01/2020 21:16

I did the same when I booked an entertainer for my lo party. When I queried he had given me his old price list and honoured it. I did feel a bit awkward tbh but I would still have queried it.

zigzagbetty · 18/01/2020 21:17

Why would you not query it, it's your hard earned cash!

chuck7 · 18/01/2020 21:18

You were quoted £55 so that's what I would expect to pay unless you raised the discrepancy before buying

ratherstuck · 18/01/2020 21:19

Well exactly zigzagbetty! DH was like "just don't ask". I wasn't asking for a discount but just making sure in was not in fact over charged!

I agree with you OP, not harm asking the question. Better in your pocket than theirs!

ratherstuck · 18/01/2020 21:21

chuck7 do you not think the person misquoted? They made a mistake so I should just pay for it?

£5 here, £5 there...it would soon add up! Of course of the price is x you pay x.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 18/01/2020 21:55

Different situation, but I picked up something in John Lewis the other day in the sale, and it rang through at full price. The guy on the till sold it to me at the price on the shelf when I pointed out the difference. My DP was mortified! If the sales assistant hadn’t offered I wouldn’t have made a fuss, but I think politely asking is totally fair enough.

looselegs · 18/01/2020 22:04

If they did that to several people, they'd have a nice tidy profit if no one complained!

MRex · 18/01/2020 22:53

You'd be foolish to pay more than you need to for anything.
