Smacking

Was everyone smacked in the 90s/00s? Thought it was normal to be smacked by your parents and curious to know what it was like for those who weren't and didn't have that threat? And what age did it stop? I was smacked well into being a teenager. But now I think about it I don't remember my older sisters being smacked, at least as often.. I was a clumsy child, always made mistakes, awkward, apparently made the wrong faces/expressions (adult diagnosed autistic may explain some of it). I never knew what I did wrong. My parents got it worse, both hit at school and possibly home with the cane etc, I only got my dad's hand and a drink thrown in my face when I was about five for tripping over a picnic blanket.

Smacked on the back of my legs as a child by my mum for being cheeky. Was never smacked by my dad. Didn’t leave any lasting impact or damage to me personally.

Was born mid eighties btw

Born 1976, smacked once that I can remember by my dad. Apparently also smacked as a toddler by my gran (mums mil, who she tore a strip off at once!!)

I was born mid 60s & got smacked by both parents, worse by my DF. He had quite a temper but now is the loveliest man you could meet. I regret it hugely but I did smack DD when she was younger. It happened more when DH was treating us both really badly & I was under a huge amount of pressure ( no excuse I know).

Yes, by both parents. Enough to make me know I will never smack my own DC, no matter how much they test my patience. If, as an adult, you can't get your point across without hitting your child, you're failing at parenting imo.
I have many memories of me and my siblings being hit and now I'm of the same age as my parents, I think about how differently I would have handled that situation.

My child was born towards the end of 1979 and I never smacked him, neither did my husband.

I used to be smacked as a child up until mid teens but not severely.

Born early 80's and I got smacked and have memories of getting the belt. Like pants down, across the knee, belt. Gives me the absolute rage when I think about it, and how my parents thought that was an appropriate punishment.

I don't have children but I have a toddler goddaughter and I could never imagine ever using smacking as a punishment.

There's no point in bringing it up with my parents, I'd just lose my temper and it wouldn't end well.

Born in 1974
My parents never smacked me and never threatened me with smacking.
I would never have dreamed of smacking my children.... why would you??????
Makes me feel soooo sad to hear that so many people think was and possibly still is the norm!!!! What parent would hit their child?? Would you hit a friend? Family member? Colleague???

Born in 1980 and my siblings were all born in the 70s. I don't remember ever being hit or snacked. I do remember my dad once going to hit my brother and my brother dodged out of the way and said ha you missed. My dad actually laughed whereas my aunt said I'd it had been her she'd make sure she didn't miss a second time.
My husband was smacked quite a lot as a child and it did cause issues as I wouldn't let him hit our children (although I did give my daughter a tap when she ran in to the r road). My husband's man once threatened to smack my youngest and I won't repeat my response but she never said that again!
