To object to a 15 rated film being shown to under 15d

I am not sure if I am over reacting

My ds is one of the Eldest in his year.. He is just 3 months shy of 15. However the youngest in the year will not be 15 till Jan next year.. We are in Scotland

Ds got a substitute teacher in French who put on a film in Spanish with a 15 rating.

Another teacher noticed 5 mins before the end of the lesson and said oh that's the wrong film
Regular teacher comes back next period and says oh ill let you see the end of that

Now whilst I appreciate most kids watch films above the age rating at home

Iabu to point out to the head that it is actually illegal to show a 15 film to under 15s

It's not illegal

TheZeppo · 18/01/2020 17:52

British film board says teachers can show films if they are for educational value. They don’t suggest going more than a year under the rating.

I believe the ratings only apply at cinemas and on buying the film in a shop.

If you’re concerned, drop an email to the teacher.

Dontlikeoranges · 18/01/2020 17:53

Totally overreacting. They're nearly 15!

onanothertrain · 18/01/2020 17:53

It's not illegal 🙄

TheZeppo · 18/01/2020 17:54

Apologies for that terrible grammar! They recommend you don’t go under the rating by more than a year. So they’d think this is fine.

pasanda · 18/01/2020 17:55

Unclench

BlueScreen171 · 18/01/2020 17:55
Confused
Sparklesocks · 18/01/2020 17:56

I think as they’re nearly 15 I wouldn’t have a problem with it, different story if they were say 8 or 9. Was there content in the film that upset your DS or his friends?

WorraLiberty · 18/01/2020 17:59

Blimey. 'YABU' doesn't even touch the sides here.

MongerTruffle · 18/01/2020 18:00

You don't instantly become mature enough to watch a 15-rated film at midnight on your 15th birthday. It's not illegal.

Seeline · 18/01/2020 18:00

Was it a Spanish film? I shouldn't think they understood much of it. I wouldn't make a fuss.

thewinkingprawn · 18/01/2020 18:00

What will be different in their heads or understanding in the next 6 months? It was a mistake, they will have seen/heard a lot worse by now so I’d get over it unless you can pinpoint something you are actually worried about.

cavabiensepasser · 18/01/2020 18:04

You sound like hard work OP.

Coldemort · 18/01/2020 18:07

Am I the only one who's wondering why they were watching in Spanish film in a French lesson? Hmm

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 18/01/2020 18:09

You would be unreasonable, yes. Please don't 'point it out' to the head. I would let it drop.

Scarlettpixie · 18/01/2020 18:14

They are almost 15. It is not illegal. Yabu.

Was your child upset about it? Have you looked up the film to see why it was given that rating?

NoseyBuggerMum · 18/01/2020 18:17

In a primary school I'd think it was probably inappropriate. To a group of almost 15 year olds it's almost certainly fine. What negative impact are you concerned about? It's highly unlikely they were exposed to anything new and shocking.

Pineaurouge · 18/01/2020 18:17

YABU Hmm

PityParty4one · 18/01/2020 18:18

WOW 100% YABU so far.

Also no it's not illegal so if you did point ut out to the head you would look like a fool.

Nomorelaundry · 18/01/2020 18:19

Don't be so ridiculous.

Or do. And give those poor overworked teachers something to laugh about.

BoneyBackJefferson · 18/01/2020 18:19

To object to a 15 rated film being shown to under 15d
frasersmummy · 18/01/2020 18:20

I am not hard work, I genuinely thought it was illegal to show a 15 film to under 15s

I was genuinely on the fence about saying something because like I said I thought it was illegal

Clearly I was wrong..so I shall say nowt to the school

@thewinkingprawn that's a really good point.. I never thought of it like that

Glad I asked.. I don't want to be "that parent"

YABVU

expatinspain · 18/01/2020 18:20

Are you serious? If they were all 10 or something, I'd see your point, but they are months, max one year away from the approved age rating. I really couldn't get worked up about this.

ScottishJo31 · 18/01/2020 18:20

I wouldn’t bat an eye lid! You sound a bit precious to be honest!
