Baby food that is surprisingly tasty

I find myself ‘stocking up’ on the below items for 10 month DD then proceeding to demolish them myself:

  • Ella’s Kitchen Banana Brekkie pouches (so creamy and hands down better than the Aldi variants)
  • Organix muesli with the raspberry/strawberry. Always make an extra large portion for baby...
  • Those long baby ‘crisps’, sweet corn flavour

I realise I’m doing my wallet a disservice, but please share any more items that are worth sampling

Veggie straws 😍

mintoreo · 19/01/2020 18:34

Ella's kitchen the white one, though any of those smoothies are nice. Not bad in cocktails either! Also partial to the tomato noughts and crosses - cant remember who makes them - it may be aldi??

thunderthighsohwoe · 19/01/2020 18:36

Banana rusks are GOOD

22Giraffes · 19/01/2020 18:39

The Organix sweetcorn rings are nice, dd got her braces put on last week (so certainly not of baby age!) and has been enjoying Ella's kitchen red fruit pouches because they're easy to eat Grin

YouFightLikeADairyFarmer · 19/01/2020 18:41

Ella's Kitchen/supermarket branded fruit purée works well added to prosecco Grin

Abouttimemum · 19/01/2020 18:43

Asda’s blueberry rice cakes, always take a few in my bag in case ‘the baby’ wants a snack.

PumpkinP · 19/01/2020 18:44

Banana rusks are GOOD

I’ve never seen them?! Off to google.

Oh and veggie straws are nice, I prefer the cheese ones though

Xiaoxiong · 19/01/2020 18:44

I still make a lot of things from the Annabel Karmel weaning cookbook, just scaled up to adult portion sizes. My favourite is the "confetti pasta" which is still the most reliable way to get vegetables into my whole family.

44PumpLane · 19/01/2020 18:46

Ella's kitchen pea, kale and... I want to say carrot. Excellent to add to pasta sauces as additional flavour and veg!

Organix date bars are delicious.

Also... Those veggie straws in cheese flavour.... Lovely!

In one of my BLW cook books there was a recipe for cheese and spinach and chilli savoury muffins which were so good!

meow1989 · 19/01/2020 18:48

I love baby porridge, ds grew out of it ages ago though boo!

Yes to the biscotti.

Pre baby I also quite enjoyed a jar of baby dessert every now and again.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 19/01/2020 18:55

Heinz biscotti are a real diet tip for me..my brain thinks I'm getting a biscuit but far fewer calories

jenniuol · 19/01/2020 18:59

Kiddylicious cereal bars are so good Blush banana and raspberry flavours, we buy them weekly. I used to love finishing off ds’s carrot puffs. And we still buy organix gingerbread men and ds is six!

EntropyRising · 19/01/2020 19:04

I don't mean to be tedious, sorry, but I always just cooked a big pot of brown rice with a bit of butter + boullion, added vegetables and served it with a big dollop of plain yogurt.

I froze loads of them in little pots so it was extremely time efficient.

My kids loved it and still talk about their little pots (they're teenagers now).

ChocolateCoins19 · 19/01/2020 19:09

I've never got any of my kids baby food meal types.
But did get rusks, and things like sweetcorn crisps as was handy snacks when out and about. Ds loved the sweetcorn rings. Dd was the biscotti.. I loved the biscotti. I. Mean if I opened a pack when out and it ' accidently' split open so couldn't wrap up till got home, I ate them as wouldn't want it to go stale would I that would be a waste.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 19/01/2020 19:22

I used to love rusks and some cow & gate chocolate pudding stuff which tasted just like those petit filous chocolate puddings.

theplough · 19/01/2020 21:34

Apple purée with vanilla. Yum!

funinthesun19 · 19/01/2020 21:38

Those banana flavour oaty bars by Organix. When my DD has one I sometimes end up pinching one too Grin

PiggyPlumPie · 19/01/2020 21:41

Always used to buy my mum a tin of Heinz apricot custard if I was getting them for my DC.

zebrapig · 19/01/2020 21:54

Another vote for Ella's spag Bol. Next time I'm really ill and don't want to eat I'm going to make DH buy me some!

PPopsicle · 19/01/2020 21:55

I second @kitk

I often buy the AK meals and end up eating 1/2 myself

MitziK · 19/01/2020 22:06

It used to be that Heinz apple pudding was the best apple sauce for roast pork and their chocolate pudding was delicious.

Douberry · 19/01/2020 22:09

Heinz fruit custard pot things. The plastic tubs with the green lid. Apple and pear flavour in particular!

Douberry · 19/01/2020 22:12

And the baby rice / baby porridge powder. So light and fluffy. Stopped giving to DC when I realised they are around 40% sugar! Confused

AbsinthedelaBonchance · 19/01/2020 22:24

Boots used to do a spiced fig compote that was heavenly...unfortunately DD adored it too. I did consider serving it with vanilla ice cream at a dinner party...
