to ask what the iced sultanas pastries in the Sainsbury's cafe are called?

Had a 'debate' with the shop assistant in a Sainsbury's cafe today about the nature of the pastry I had chosen. It was:

a) not a belgian bun
b) made of puff pastry (in the cinnamon whirl format)
c) has sultanas (or similar) in it
d) has maybe some sort of almond paste
e) has icing on top
f) has a cherry on the top of the icing
g) is really definitely NOT a belgian bun

I've tried (after the debate) to find a label for said item, but there wasn't one, then tried to find it online in the Sainsburys bakery section, but have not found anything.

I'f MN can't solve this in under 10 mins then I will be sorely dissapointed....so what is it??? (and how much should I have paid :))

They sell them in the small Sainsbury's near work in a 2 pack.

teensthanks for the photo - that is indeed the one

Now I have to go and get an Iced Danish Pastry! I love them 😍

M3lon · 18/01/2020 16:31

I've a bad feeling that this information isn't going to help....I mean I'll be all 'MN says its an iced raisin Danish' and they are going to be like 'that's not on the machine - how about we put it through as a Belgian bun?'.

torys yes - I've bought them in the cafe and in a small sainsbury's in a two pack - its definitely a real product...it just doesn't appear in any of their lists of pastries or bakery or cafe products.

I feel its a secret product...like, they can't afford to advertise it, because who knows what would happen then?

Got a 2 pack today, they're hidden in the cupboard for when DD goes to bed and DH goes to play computer games. I'm not sharing!

SparklySnowflakes · 20/01/2020 17:20

Grin that is the one left over from breakfast, and the one I have just eaten for tea, after reading this Thread over the weekend Wink

Saucery · 20/01/2020 17:51

They were my Go To breastfeeding snack. Which possibly explains why the expected breastfeeding weight loss just didn’t happen Hmm

I’m having a flashback! ❤️

Ishihtzuknot · 20/01/2020 18:04

They’re usually labelled as raisin whirls in my local sainsburys love them
Reminds me of a time I asked for a cream donut (The long ones with whipped cream on top) and the staff gave me an ‘iced finger’ then argued til she was blue in the face it was a cream donut and I was wrong until her colleague marched her away to calm down Grin

Twenty2 · 20/01/2020 18:15

@Ishihtzuknot She was BU. Massively. How dare she? AngryGrin What was the colleague's opinion?

user1471426611 · 20/01/2020 18:33

They're on sale in Sainsbury's as a raisin whirl, in packs of 2 from the bakery department

doubleshotespresso · 20/01/2020 20:06

Cinnamon swirl!

Darkstar4855 · 20/01/2020 20:09

Raisin whirl! They have them on the cake counter sometimes. It’s lighter and more croissant-y than a Danish pastry.

RedRiverHog · 20/01/2020 20:19

Raisin Whirl.

I work in a sainsbury's bakery!

M3lon · 20/01/2020 21:34

redriver I will be quoting you then, if I get any further fight on the issue!
