Citralapam

Hi has anyone got any experiences on taking citralapam for depression.
Swapped over from another antidepressant because of the side effects although it was great for depression but couldn't handle the tiredness.
Been on it for over a week so to early to tell, not had much side effects so far but not really helping with depression so far.
I'm on 20 mg which I guess is the standard dose. Would be just interested if it has worked for others as I've previously been on prozac and that did nothing for my depression so I'm hoping this ones different.

I'm on Citralopram, I found it wasnt really until week 3 I felt any different.

NewloveCG · 18/01/2020 10:43

I’m on citalopram, with me it didn’t help until I had been taking it for at least a month. It actually made me more depressed at first as I was taking 40mg straight away. It has helped in the long run, you will need to give it time though.

happyandsingle · 18/01/2020 10:47

It's good to know it has worked and I know I need to give it time just hate that feeling when my depression starts creeping back.

I've been on sertraline which gave me horrendous side effects but when I went onto citalopram I had none, I've been on it for over a year now on 40mg and I works really well for me x good luck!

mrsbyers · 18/01/2020 10:48

Did your doctor not tell you it usually takes a month for any anti depressant to make a difference ? A week is no time at all

iklboo · 18/01/2020 10:49

I'm on 30mg a day. I'm honestly a different person and everyone has noticed. I started off at 10, then 20mg but the 30mg seems to be my optimal dose. It took a few weeks to bed in but I honestly feel much, much better.

UndertheCedartree · 18/01/2020 10:50

I've used citalapram a couple of times. The first I was only on 10mg for a few weeks and it really helped. The next time it helped too but I had to go up to top dose.

If you've had no side effects that's a good sign as you normally get them worst at the beginning. I think you'll need to give it a bit longer to see if it helps. If you feel it helps a bit it will be well worth increasing the dose to find the best level. Good luck.

happyandsingle · 18/01/2020 10:52

I know any antidepressant can take a month to work but I've been on a few that made my depression worse including prozac so was just hoping that holding out for this one is worth it.

It works like a charm for me, but everyone is different.

AnotherExWife · 18/01/2020 10:57

I've been on citlopram for about 6 months, it took about 3 weeks for it to kick in, I had a few side effects such as a dry mouth but they stopped after a couple of weeks. It has definitely helped me, I wish I started taking it sooner rather than struggling on!

nearlyfinished1moreyear · 18/01/2020 11:07

I was on citalopram 40mg for 7 years, in that time I only had 1 major depressive episode.it worked well for me at the time. Due to a decline in my MH I'm now in mirtazapine.

happyandsingle · 18/01/2020 11:13

Sertraline was the worst for me awful side effects.Paroxetine was the best for my depression but the side effects were so bad had to come of it.As you can see I've tried a few and it gets frustrating trying to find the right one.

PackardClipper · 18/01/2020 11:31

I tried citalapram as a substitute for sertraline. It didn't take a month for it to start to work. A week maybe. I found both effective with minimal side effects apart from pretty much killing my libido and ability to orgasm. Sertraline was the same. Hence the switch.

LesLavandes · 18/01/2020 11:37

I have been on all doses. It makes feel numb emotionally. I don't like that. It had kept mr calm during terrible times.

Nut I want feelings.

Coming off now, no matter what.

On 10 mg per day. My drs don't give a stuff. Doing it myself

UndertheCedartree · 18/01/2020 12:25

Setraline made me very unwell. I'm on venlafaxine now which has really helped.

dun1urkin · 18/01/2020 12:30

My DH has taken citalopram to help him through 3 depressive episodes over the last 15 ish years (between 20 and 40mg) He knows it works for him; give it a bit of time like pp have said. All the best, and I hope you start to feel better soon Flowers

Drowninginmyself · 18/01/2020 12:52

I find it great, I take it at night and that stops me being zoned out during the day which I was when I took on the morning

Sparklypurpleunicornsaremyfav · 18/01/2020 16:16

Ive been taking citalapram for 10 years for anxiety, various amounts over the years, currently on 40mg. I've been very lucky that I've never had any problems with it

honeyloops · 18/01/2020 16:35

I've been on it for 8 years now, and it's only when during a bad period last year I stopped taking it (not on doctor's advice) that I realised how much of a difference it had been making. My side effects are very few - it had a slight effect on my sex drive, but it was very high anyway so hasn't been a problem, and I now grind my teeth/clench my jaw in my sleep, so I was a gumshield (which is v attractive Wink), but nothing else.

Sewrainbow · 18/01/2020 16:53

Works for me but took a month or so to start working

WhoAmIToTellYou · 18/01/2020 16:57

Was on it shortly, didn’t like it- it sent me into overdrive, i couldn’t sleep, was too hyper.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 18/01/2020 17:39

I'm on a very low dose (2.5mg, half a tablet) of Cipralex. It took quite a while to see any benefit but it has been life changing for me. I definitely know when I try to come off it.

The best way I can describe it is to say it levels me out a bit and helps me keep things in proportion. If I try to come off it or reduce my dose I soon find myself becoming irritable about stuff that really doesn't matter.

DollyDoneMore · 18/01/2020 18:06

Citralopram worked for me or, at least, was part of my recovery from depression along with CBT. (It’s hard to know what worked, but something did.)

harriethoyle · 18/01/2020 18:12

I was on citalopram, took me 5-6 weeks to kick in but the day it did was genuinely like having a black and white filter removed from my life. It was great. Also easy to come off when you're ready going really super slow. I got a pill splitter and stepped down 2.5mg per week. No side effects.
