To be worried about blood pressure..

Back in September/October I was feeling unwell and visited the doctors who checked my bp and said it was a little high.. and booked me an 8 hour bp monitor to see what it does throughout the day. I had one of these in November, they lost me results. Book another late November. I rang up several times in December before Christmas to ask about it and whether I needed to be seen. They either didn’t answer the phone (Our surgery are terrible at not answering) or being told nothing on the system.

Weeks have gone by and I assumed because I didn’t hear anything all was okay.

Today I received a letter to ask to book a non-urgent appointment to discuss my results.

I am aware I’m not a medical emergency as it’s took weeks and they don’t want to see me urgently?

But aibu to think it’s terrible they’ve dragged this process out for so long? Bearing in mind I visited the doctors in Late September or Early October I believe and it’s took this long to get somewhere.

Also, my app isn’t for another 4 weeks. So it will be around 5 months.

September was the first time I’ve visited the doctor in quite a while so I don’t know how long my blood pressure has been higher than normal.

Would just like some advice really as well. I am only 28. Non smoker, non drinker, should eat less and lose weight but fairly active. Under a lot of stress at the minute and suffer from anxiety and all of this is adding to it!!

I just feel it’s taken too long..

If there was anything urgent to worry about, you'd have been in hospital on the same day (happened to me last summer). If it's a bit high and should be medicated, then yes it sounds as though this has taken longer than usual, but honestly it won't have any real impact. Especially since now they are asking for a non-urgent appointment. It sounds like your bp is slightly out of range, but there's really nothing you should be anxious about.

Its normal with elevated BP. Its actually good as you can see if its ongoing or just a blip.
As a heads up, I had incredibly high bp in late 20s. One gp put me on beta blockers for a year or two. I moved surgeries and they got me to a proper hypertension clinic - they diagnosed fibro muscular dysplasia which necessitated a renal angioplasty.
None of this was a medical 'emergency' though, but it can be in pregnancy which is why they sorted it out.

Blood pressure ‘a bit high’ Is not urgent - BP fluctuates lots hence the 8hr monitor.

Your appointment will almost certainly be to say it errs to the higher side of normal, maybe a blood test and some lifestyle advice.

My BP was high during pregnancy and didn’t resolve afterwards. The doctor saw me every 2/3 days for about a month to get me stable. They don’t muck around with BP.

Having said that, if your surgery is so bad and they’ve missed something vote with your feet. I changed surgeries when I wasn’t happy. Moved less than a mile away. Completely different treatment because they had a different way of administrating the surgery.

Get a home BP monitor and start taking it yourself. Omron makes some very nice ones that will let you track your readings on a smartphone. Then you'll know how serious your situation is and you can give the data to your GP.

I have hypertension too and you're right to take it seriously. Untreated it can lead to lots of serious medical problems.
