To put my rubbish in neighbours bin?

Gruffalosandbuffalos · 17/01/2020 09:54

It’s bin day, all bins are out on the street waiting to be emptied. Next door is half empty (single person), we can’t get the lid to close on ours (family of 4) due to extra Xmas and a birthday rubbish this month. AIBU to stick an extra bin bag in next doors bin before it is collected? I would go and ask but they aren’t home.

Yeh I would if it was a one off.

purpledingyoverboard · 17/01/2020 09:57

Do it. They won't know anyway and it's a one off. I did this at Christmas when my neighbours were away.

Unshriven · 17/01/2020 09:57

If they definitely aren't home, I'd do it.

Then go and confess tonight, and ask if they'd mind me using any empty space in future Grin.

They might be quite decent people, who wouldn't mind.

ringme · 17/01/2020 09:57

I would as a one off only and mention it to them when I saw them again that I’d done so (politely).

Cornettoninja · 17/01/2020 09:58

On bin collection day if I had no means to go to the dump myself then yes, I don’t see the problem.

Maybe tell your neighbour retrospectively if you feel like you need to but as the bins are due to be emptied they will likely not even realise. I wouldn’t begrudge someone doing this if I had the room available.

Letsnotargue · 17/01/2020 10:03

I wouldn't have an issue at all.

What I find really annoying is our neighbour 'helpfully' putting our bins out the lunchtime before collection day. I thought he was being neighbourly until I went to empty the kitchen bin the night before collection and it was full of his rubbish!

So if he's put his bin out of his own free will then I'd go for it, but maybe mention to him afterwards.

Gruffalosandbuffalos · 17/01/2020 10:59

Yep they have put the bin out and then gone out to work so no chance for them to add any more of their own waste to it. I’ve only added one small bag so there is plenty more space and will mention to them next time I see them.

I'd also have no issue. My bins are always bloody full but I wouldnt mind in principle!

BigFatLiar · 17/01/2020 11:06

I doubt they'll (care unless you're putting something illegal or messy in the bin)

Its usually us with the half empty bin and we don't care if the neighbour puts his bag in our bin if he has no room.

mencken · 17/01/2020 11:07

I wouldn't mind if I was that person as long as your rubbish fits in.

although can't wrapping etc be recycled?

memberofseven · 17/01/2020 11:22

I would also shove it in their bin, but they may not see it the same way. Many of my friends are on a journey to zero waste and post endlessly on social media about making eco bricks, the fact you can recycle plastic wrappers at M&S, a new shampoo bar they have discovered and the latest (expensive) scoop shop they have found. It is a badge of honour for them to miss a bin collection because their bin is not full and they literally post pictures of 1/3 full bins after 2 or 3 weeks. I also have friends that are cleaning fanatics that triple bag everything that goes in their bin and are out their with marigolds and bleach the moment it has been collected. My guess is that someone like either of my examples would be very annoyed with you! I wouldn't care a jot (but good luck fitting something in!!).

MaccaPacca81 · 17/01/2020 11:23

My neighbours do it all the time. I dont mind on the whole as we only put out 1 bag of recycling, 1 bag of rubbish and 1 bag of food scraps.

It is annoying when they fill our bins completely or put the wrong thing in the wrong bin.

74NewStreet · 17/01/2020 11:24

Yes, do it. People are so protective of “their” bins, it’s amusing. Given that they’re all full of rubbish and belong to the council anyway.

NoParticularPattern · 17/01/2020 11:26

Yeah why not. So long as it’s empty this evening when they get home I doubt they’re going to mind what was in it. I’d maybe mention it to them next time I saw them but honestly if they’re none the wiser then no real need to as a one off

beautifulstranger101 · 17/01/2020 11:27

As a one off and if they are at work then yes I would. But I wouldnt make a habit of it, its a bit cheeky.

beerbellypregnantbelly · 17/01/2020 11:28

Gonnna be honest, that is absolutley shcoking and vile. If i woke up in the new year to find out that some scoundrel had put THEIR RUBBISH in MY BIN then i would be raging beyond belief.

i recimmend going to the tip with your extra waste as you may get some backlash and i dont want a fellow mumsnet user to get harmed!!!!!!!!

lots of love and all the best,

PixieDustt · 17/01/2020 11:31

^ are you drunk? 🥴

namechanger0989 · 17/01/2020 11:37

I'd do it, I would mention it to them though.
You don't want some other neighbour spotting you and then going to them to tell them 'how they saw you putting loads of rubbish in their bin and it was all disgusting, leaking bags and you do it all the time'
There's always one!

lavenderhidcote · 17/01/2020 11:39

Of course, would not bother me in the slightest if I was your neighbour.

GeraltOfRivia · 17/01/2020 11:43

Yeah. I felt bad doing it though so spoke to them and have a standing arrangement that once their bin is out for collection I can add stuff in if I need to.

viccat · 17/01/2020 11:48

It's fine, just keep an eye to make sure it's definitely collected today. A neighbour did this to me once and then the bin men didn't come and I was stuck with an overflowing bin all weekend!

Other than that, I've done it and have had it done to me before and it's fine if there's space and the collection happens - and obviously as long as it's properly bagged and doesn't leak or anything.

willothewispa · 17/01/2020 11:49

Yes, do it, I wouldn't mind.

userxx · 17/01/2020 11:49

@beerbellypregnantbelly You been smoking crack ?

I'd have no issue with it at all, as long as it was all bagged up.

kinsss · 17/01/2020 11:51

They might have a camera thinggy facing the front. You might be caught live!

I don't think I would do it myself. But it's up to you.

user1496146479 · 17/01/2020 11:52

Fine to do, assuming your collection is charged by lift and not by weight of the bin?
